The Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu today on 25th October, 2024 organized Gender Sensitization workshop for the P.G Students and scholars of the Department of Dogri, University of Jammu.
Prof. Savita Nayyar, Director, Centre for Women’s Studies was the resource person. She spoke on the theme: “Gender Sensitization and development of youth for an equitable society”. In her presentation she elaborated on the importance of gender sensitization and said that these workshops will nurture the culture of respect and equality which is prerequisite for just and equitable society. Further, she elaborated that how patriarchy is used as a mechanism to subordinate the women status in the society and contributes to number of problems affecting women, such as harassment, domestic violence, dowry deaths, acid attacks etc. She also gave details regarding the fundamental rights under articles 14, 15 ,16,19,21 and different other provisions of the Constitution of India dealing with gender equality. She also discussed different laws for the protection of women.
Prof. Sucheta Pathania, Head, Department of Dogri, emphasized on the importance of such workshop. She also shared her personal experiences regarding gender construction and societal expectations. While emphasizing the importance of the workshop she mentioned that lack of awareness and non-implementation of laws leads to inequality in the society.
Large number of students, scholars and faculty members from the Department of Dogri very enthusiastically participated in the workshop. Other among who were present were Dr. Padam Dev Singh, Dr. Sandeep Dubey, Dr. Radha Devi Sharma, Dr. Shallu Sharma, and Dr. Anu Sharma.
Earlier Dr. Saranjit Kaur, Faculty, Centre for Women’s studies welcomed the participants and set the tone for Genser sensitization workshop. Ms. Kunzang Angmo, Faculty, Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu presented the formal vote of thanks.
