The Udhampur Campus, University of Jammu today organized a one-day Orientation Programme on the National Service Scheme (NSS) at Udhampur Campus (Garnai-Lotta), Udhampur.
Dr. Hema Gandotra, Associate Professor at Sociology Department and Programme Coordinator NSS, University of Jammu was the guest speaker on the occasion.
The orientation program's objective was to acquaint students with the duties and obligations that NSS leaders and volunteers have to the community. The session began with the thought-proving presentation of Dr Gandotra about the main benefits of NSS for students and the chances that come with participating. The event brought attention to how important NSS is in encouraging volunteerism and social responsibility. Dr. Gandotra showcased the history of NSS along with its objectives, structure, various successful NSS projects, initiatives taken during previous years to inspire participation and potential impact of NSS activities in various institutions. In order to increase the students' engagement in lowering carbon footprints to protect the environment, an interactive session including creative ways to reduce plastic use for the planet Earth's well-being was also held.
Earlier, the Rector of the Udhampur Campus, Prof. Yash Pal Sharma, expressed his gratitude to Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu for his unwavering support of the campus's infrastructure and community engagement initiatives. He also thanked the NSS Coordinator, Dr. Hema Gandotra for her encouraging messages to young minds and their role in nation-building.
Later, a plantation drive on the occasion of “World Earth Day” was also organized along with teaching staff, non-teaching staff and students of the Udhampur Campus.
The proceedings of the event were conducted by Dr. Shilpa Gupta, Lecturer, Economics, Udhampur Campus, while a formal vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Riya Mahajan.
