Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) sponsored one day workshop on “Start -Up Ecosystem in J&K: A Way Forward” which was organized at The Business School, University of Jammu today. The purpose of the workshop was to deliberate on the findings and outcomes of the ICSSR Short Term Empirical Collaborative Research project titled “Analyzing Impact of Indian Start-up Ecosystem in UT of J&K” awarded to Prof. Vinay Chauhan, Director, The Business School and his team comprising of Dr. Saloni Devi and Dr. Rohit Bhagat.
The workshop commenced with the inaugural session followed by the lamp lighting ceremony. Prof. Vinay Chauhan, Director, The Business School & Project Coordinator formally welcomes the guests and the gatherings, highlighting the importance of the Start-Up ecosystem and entrepreneurship in driving economic development and employment opportunities in UT of Jammu and Kashmir. Prof. Vinay Chauhan further assured that TBS, JU will leave no stone unturned and with the help of the Government, financial institutions and other stakeholders try to emulate good start-up models of states like Gujarat, Karnataka etc.in UT of J&K towards building and providing a sustainable successful Start-up ecosystem to budding entrepreneurs of UT of J&K.
Shri Arun Kumar Manhas, Director, Industries& Commerce, Jammu was the Chief Guest of the occasion. He emphasized on the need to simplify the process of starting a new startup, enabling aspiring candidates to kick-start their ventures seamlessly. He further stressed on crafting start-up-friendly policies to ensure the smooth start and functioning of startups. The special guest of the occasion was Shri Sandeep Sharma (GM NABARD, J&K, RO) who addressed the budding entrepreneurs to storm their brain and be more innovative and unique in their efforts to be successful. He further added the need for collaborative efforts between the government, industry, and academia to build a vibrant startup ecosystem. The guest of honor of the event was Shri Annil Suri, President & CEO, AB Consultant. He stressed on the sharing of ideas so that every entrepreneur can come up with something new in the market.
Dr. Saloni Devi, Assistant Professor, TBS, JU & Project Director discussed the theme and aim of the workshop followed by a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Rohit Bhagat, Assistant Professor, The Business School, Bhaderwah Campus& Project Director.
The one-day workshop comprised five sessions. The Session –I was about the discussion on the research project, objectives and methodology of the ICSSR Short-Term Collaborative Project “Analyzing the Impact of Indian Start-Up Ecosystem in UT of J&K” taken by Prof. Vinay Chauhan and his team.
Further in Session –II Dr. Rohit Bhagat deliberated on the major observations and empirical findings of the project. Dr. Saloni Devi discussed the short term and long term recommendations along with the key findings of the study. Furthermore, Ms.Akshi,Ms. Gazala Noor,Ms. Tamanna Sharma &Tanveer Ahmed, field investigators of the research project shared their firsthand experience and live cases.
The session –III focused on the case studies of successful Start-Ups in UT of J&K moderated by Prof.Alka Sharma, TBS, JU wherein Ms. Mansi Sharma, Founder & Director, Manukarishi, Mr. Gurmeet Singh, Director, Tecnisch Kaizen Services Pvt. Ltd., Ms. Aniza Mushtaq, Jammuz Papier Maachie Pvt. Ltd & Mr. Bharat Bhushan , Chairman , Himalayan Essentials oils Producer Company Ltd. shared the success stories of their Start-Ups.
Session –IV was on “Role of Banking Sector in the Growth of Start-Ups in J&K” in UT of J&K. The session was chaired by Sh. Sandeep Sharma, GM, NABARD, Sh. Rakesh Sharma, AGM, RBI(Jammu) and Sh. Rohit Kumar, Chief Manager, J& K Bank and moderated by Prof. Sameer Gupta, TBS, JU.
Session –V served as a platform for engaging dialogue and exchanging ideas towards “Role of Government in the Growth of Start-Ups in J&K”. This session was jointly chaired by Sh.Annil Suri,President& CE0, AB Consultant and Sh. Gautam Saini, Assistant Faculty, JKEDI (Jammu) .
The workshop ended on a positive note with having more such sessions in the future towards promoting entrepreneurial culture in UT of J&K and working towards the aim of making India into “Viksit Bharat”
The workshop was attended was attended by Prof. Alka Sharma, Prof. DipankerSen Gupta, Officials from CII, Representatives from FICCI FLO, Key Stakeholders, Beneficiaries, Faculty members, Staff and Research Scholars of TBS, JU.
The sessions were coordinated by Dr. Nidhi Pathania, and Dr. Sandeva Khajuria.
