ACTIVITIES AND OUTREACH PROGRAMME
2021
- Skill Development Training Programme for Aatma Nirbhar Bharat on Bamboo, Cane and Straw crafts Development- Centre for Studies in Museology, University of Jammu in collaboration with the University Entrepreneurship & Skill Development Centre (UESDC) and supported by Tripura Bamboo Mission, Government of Tripura, organised skill development training programme for AatmaNirbhar Bharat on bamboo, cane and straw crafts development from 22 March to 27 March 2021 at the Seikh Noor Ud-din Noorani Museum of Heritage. At the end of the training programme Chief Guest on this occasion Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Jammu University, Prof. Manoj K Dhar inaugurated the exhibition of the crafts made by the participants. He appreciated and congratulated all the participants who took part from various places such as Kolkata, Ladakh, Tripura and various parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
2020
- Celebration of International Museum Day 2020 was conducted by the Centre on 18th May, 2020 through Digital Platform- webinar on the theme ‘Museums for Equality- Diversity and Inclusion’. Prof. Poonam Chaudhary, Director, Centre for Studies in Museology chaired the Programme. Professor. S. N Bhattacharya, former HOD, Dept. of Museology, University of Calcutta; Dr. Baisakhi Mitra, HOD, Museology Department and In- Charge, Museum, RabindraBharati University; Dr. Sayan Bhattachaya, Education Officer, Indian Museum, Kolkata Dr. Dipak Bara Panda, Curator, Asutosh Museum, University of Calcutta were distinguished speakers of the webinar. Dr. Malay Dey, Assistant Professor of the Centre coordinated the programme.
Webinar on the theme ‘Museums for Equality- Diversity and Inclusion’
- A National Seminar cum Workshop on “Musealization of Vedic Heritage” was organized by the School of Vedic Studies Rabindra Bharti University, Kolkata in collaboration with the Centre for Studies in Museology, University of Jammu from 28th February to 4th March, 2020 at School of Vedic Studies, Rabindra Bharti University, Kolkata. The seminar cum workshop continued for 6 days consisting of two sessions on each day, with 2 days of field visit to various museums in Kolkata. The seminar cum workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Nirmalya Narayan Chakraborty, Dean Faculty of Arts, Rabindra Bharti University, Kolkata. The welcome address was delivered by Prof. Bhaskarnath Bhattacharyya, Director, School of Vedic Studies. Prof. Poonam Chaudhary, Director, Centre for Studies in Museology was the Guest-in-chief who stressed the importance of such collaborations and the activities of the Centre. The keynote address was delivered by Prof. SachindraNath Bhattacharya, former Head, Dept. of Museology, University of Calcutta. The seminar cum workshop was attended by faculty members and scholars from various Universities. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Malay Dey, Assiatant Professor, Centre for Studies in Museology, University of Jammu on the theme ‘Making of Vedic Museum.’

2019
- November 20: Centre for studies in Museology observed World Heritage Week on the theme “Ripples of Time”. The programme consisted of exhibition and screening of a documentary film. The Documentary film has made by the Centre.Theprogrammewas flagged off under the supervision of Prof. Poonam Chaudhary. The programme was inaugurated by lighting of the lamp by Registrar of University of Jammu. The Centre hasorganised the exhibition and workshop to raise a sense of appreciation and respect for the intangible heritage of an untold story of displacement.

- May 16:Centre for studies in Museology in collaboration with Dean Students’ Welfare observes International Museum day on the theme “Rural Craft of Jammu: Cultural Hub for Livelihood”. The programme consisted of training session cum workshop under the able guidance of the trainees of the Centre adept at the Rural crafts of Jammu. The programme was flagged off under the supervision of Prof. Poonam Chaudhary. The programme was inaugurated by lighting of the lamp by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of University of Jammu. Mr. Ravinder Singh, KAS, former Secretary of Khadi and Village Industries, Govt. of J & K was the resource person during this occasion
2018
- Centre for Studies in Museology organized one day outreach programme at Government High School, Domail (Udhampur) to celebrate International Museum Day on 18th May, 2018 on the theme ‘Hyper connected Museums, New Approaches and New publics’. In this connection, Sheikh Noor -ud-din Noorani Museum of Heritage& Centre as a part of its outreach programme organized an interactive session with students from class VIII to X which includedPhotographic exhibition, live demonstrationsof local handicrafts of Jammu region and painting competition.
2017
- On 18th April 2017, Centre along with Sheikh-Noor-Ud-Din Noorani Museum of Heritage celebrated International Heritage Day on the theme ‘Heritage of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.’The museum exhibited the Heritage of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh followed by Interactive sessions with visitors by Museum Guides and presentations in a folk musical background.
- On 18th May 2017, Centre along with Sheikh-Noor-Ud-Din Noorani Museum of Heritage observed International Museum Day on the theme ‘ Heritage for Peace.’ The Centre organized Demonstration Cum Exhibition and also released a Monograph on ‘Heritage for Peace.
- Centre for Studies in Museology and Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Noorani Museum of Heritage in Collaboration with Dean Students Welfare and Institute of Music and Fine Arts organized Heritage Week from 20th to 24th of November 2017, in order to commensurate World Heritage Week. The programme had two components namelyPhotographic Exhibition on the theme ‘Nature and People’ followed by the Cultural Programme on the theme ‘Lesser known aspects of Intangible Heritage’
- In December 2017, Field Trip of Open Course Students at Mubarak Mandi and in March 2018 field trip of Scholars at Akhnoor and Ambaran sites
- On 17th May, 2018 one day before International Museum Day, Centre for Studies in Museology organizedan outreach programme at Government High School, Domail (Jammu) to celebrate International Museum Day on the theme ‘Hyper connected Museums, New Approaches and New publics’.
2016
- Centre for Studies in Museology in collaboration with artists of Floating Goose Studios, Adelaide, Australia, organized an International exhibition on Contemporary art to provide an exposure to the field of art.
2015
- During “World Heritage Week” from 18th to 25th November, 2015, Centre for Studies in Museology conducted a lecture series on “Conservation, Preservation and Deterioration of Cultural Heritage”. The guest faculty was Prof. Kamal Kumar Jain, Former Director of National Research Laboratory for Conservation.
- In collaboration with Institute of Music and Fine Arts, Centre for studies in Museology organised a three day exhibition titled ‘Dark Clouds: A silver Lining’ exhibiting the works of renowned sculptor Sh. RavinderJamwal
- 2014
- February - , Jammu University was selected as a host to organize Indian Science Congress, in this the Centre and the Director were assigned a number of duties and along with Scholars of the Centre in lead namely TushitaPandey, Akshey Sharma and other scholars namely, Annie Ambreen (History), Vinod Sharma (Economics), SkalzangDorjey (History), TseringJolden (Sociology), TseringNorphel (Sociology) from different departments of the University volunteered and a successful Science Congress took place. As Prof. PoonamChaudhary was the convener of Publication and Souvenir Committee, her scholars successfully contributed in collecting authentic information of all sorts to make it a success
2013
- 2nd February 2013, Mr. S. K. Qadri (Former Director General of Archives, Archaeology and Museums) was invited to guide scholars of the Centre for Studies in Museology regarding the establishment of Religious Museum at Spiritual Growth Centre, Katra.Participating Scholars: TushitaPandey, Akshey Sharma
- 11th -13th February - Workshop organized on cleansing and Polishing the Metal Exhibits in collaboration with Nishkaam Polish SewaJatha, New Delhi. Participating scholars: Akshey Sharma, TushitaPandey, ShilpaKotwal and AshyanaKouser.
- 17th May- Outreach program organized at K.C. Public School, Akhnoor Road,on the importance of’ Museum and Heritage
- 18th May- organised Painting Competition on theme ‘Heritage of Jammu’ for the students from class IV to IX on the occasion of the ‘International Museum Day.
- 2012
- One day workshop on “ Mughal Route Built heritage ” in collaboration with INTACH, Jammu Chapter.
- In February Centre provided guidance in documenting the objects and artefacts received in donation by Spiritual Growth Centre, Katra.
- 28th December a Temporary Exhibition was conducted on the collection of the Departmental Museum
