P.G. Department of Commerce organized Har Ghar Dhyan Abhiyan in collaboration with Art of Living Foundation on the theme “Meditation and Mental Health” on 14th August 2023 in the New Seminar Hall cum Interactive Room of the Department of Commerce under the aegis of ‘Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav’. Har Ghar Dhyan Abhiyan programs/talks have been initiated in the University of Jammu under the mentorship of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Umesh Rai to promote mental well-being of students and employees of the University.
The program commenced with the formal welcome address by Dr. Tarsem Lal, Coordinator for the event. Dr. Shallu Sehgal, Meditation Ambassador, University of Jammu introduced the day’s theme i.e., “Meditation and Mental Health” and highlighted the importance of meditation and good mental health in the present scenario. Prof. Rajan Salaria, Scientist and Professor, SKAUST, Art of Living Faculty was the Resource person for the day.
The resource person began the session with 20 minutes Pranayam session, followed by meditation and alsohighlighted the significance of meditation in the fast-paced, inter-connected society we live in and in handling the pressures and challenges the students face. Further, he enlightens the students about how meditation cultivate the art of mindfulness and self-reflection and how they can navigate the storms of life with greater resilience and clarity. He encouraged students to pause, breathe and center themselves, to reduce stress, anxiety and overall improvement in their mental health. He also shared the WHO data regarding mental health.
The event was attended by the students/scholars and office staff of the Department. The event concluded with the formal vote of thanks by Dr. Harleen Kaur. The faculty members present were Dr. Sunil Kumar, Dr. Rupa Mahajan, Dr. Vishal Gupta, Dr. Sumeet Kour, Dr. Deepti Abrol.
