The Law School, University of Jammu organized a legal awareness Camp in Marh Bagh Village in collaboration with GHS Madh Bagh Zone Marh Distt, Jammu on 10.05.2023. The Students of B.A.LLB (5 Years)10th and 8th semester participated, for whom it was a maiden experience. The program was held under the supervision of Dr. Bindu Sangra as the Legal Awareness Club Coordinator with the support of the Legal Awareness Club Members, Dr. Seema Sharma, Dr. Renu Jamwal, Dr. Monika Bhardwaj, Dr. Upasna Sharma, Dr. Ramesh Sharma, Dr. Anjali Sharma and Ms. Aditya Mahajan the Student Incharge of the program, under the able guidance of Prof. Manju Jamwal, Director, The Law School, University of Jammu.
More than 100 GHS Marh Bagh School students, various Panchayats members, teachers, students, school staff, and villagers of adjoining villages attended the event. An interactive session was organized for spreading awareness about the legal assistance being provided to the weaker sections of society under the Legal Services Authority Act, of 1987.
Dr. Seema Sharma and Dr. Bindu Sangra of Law enlightened the participants regarding the importance and usefulness of legal education. The Learned Faculty Members were flanked and supported heartily by the learned Principal of the School, Mrs. Sushma Sharma. Law students canvassed and discussed different social and legal issues with young children and the villagers. The paramount issues discussed were burning social problems like gender disparity, female foeticide, dowry death, free legal aid, right to education, consumer rights, and solutions regarding refusal to file First Information Report. The students of the Law School actively participated and led their groups in the counseling session and Conducted a survey. After the initial phase, attendees asked questions for guidance. They were apprised of the State Legal Services Authority and Legal Awareness Club of The Law School. Finally, the Law School team was felicitated by the Principal of the School and other respectable persons of the Gram Sabha. Many youngsters also expressed their desire to study law and the programme culminated with high zeal and good hopes.
