The NSS Volunteers of the University of Jammu and the affiliated colleges participated in the Three Days Workshop on ‘Solid Waste Management’ organised by Office of the Mayor, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Jammu w.e.f 28th to 30th March 2023 under the Mentorship of Prof. Umesh Rai, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor and Chairman, NSS University of Jammu. The volunteers displayed placards with slogans ‘SAVE SURYA PUTRI TAWI RIVER and SAY NO TO POLYTHENE’. They sensitized the masses regarding the Solid Waste Management and made people aware about the ill effects of throwing garbage in the Tawi River. The initiative was taken by the Hon’ble Mayor of the Jammu Municipal Corporation Sh.Rajinder Sharma. He interacted with the volunteers and guided them in spreading the awareness regarding the Solid Waste Management and Save Surya Putri Tawi river. Prof. Savita Nayyar, Convenor, NSS Campus Units accompanied the volunteers in their mission of spreading the message of clean and green Tawi river and motivated them. The entire programme was coordinated by the Dr. Hema Gandotra, NSS Programme Coordinator, University of Jammu, Mr.Imran , PRO University of Jammu with the full support of the NSS Programme Officers Dr. Neelam Choudhary, Dr. Meghna Dhar, Dr. Subash Chander, Dr. Shallu Sehgal, Dr. Amit Kumar, Dr. Monika Bhardwaj, Dr. Mandeep Singh of University of Jammu, Dr. Reeta Dwivedi, PO MIER College of Education, Dr Gurwinder Kour, PO, GDC, Khour, Dr. Deepika Slathia, Associate Professor, Dept of Environmental Studies, Ms Kajal Kalsi and Dr. Gopal Krishan Sharma, the faculty members of the Dept of Sociology. The entire event was possible with the cooperation of Heads and faculty members of different departments of the University of Jammu Prof Vishav Raksha, Prof. Piyush Malviya, Prof. Jasbir Singh, Prof. Aroon Sharma, and Prof. Virender Koundal. Dr. Shallu Sehgal and Dr. Mandeep Singh Programme Officers from the University of Jammu, were the teacher Incharge of the entire event.
