Reasi campus, JU, has organized a lecture on 14.03.23 to sensitize the students and employees of the institution to the constitutional obligations in terms of their values, rights, duties and responsibilities of citizen as a part of good practices in higher educational institutions but also help to prepare students and faculty members in assuming the role of responsible, informed and active citizens in the future. The lecture was delivered by an eminent academician Prof. Satinder Kumar, Head, Department of Law and Dean, faculty of Law and chaired by Prof. S. K. Pandey, Director, Reasi Campus of Jammu University, which was attended by the students of 1st and 3rd semesters of MDP sociology and staff of the campus. Prof. Satinder highlighted and elaborated the key points of the constitutional obligations for every citizen and stated that our constitution is not static but a living document. At the same time he has elaborated on the key features and core values of Indian constitution including sovereignty, socialism, secularism, democracy, republican character of Indian state, justice, liberty, equality, fraternity, human dignity and the unity and integrity of the nation. He said that it can be only possible by spreading the awareness of constitutional moral obligations to every citizen of the society. We are fortunate citizens of this country that secures the right of every single citizen by its constitution irrespective of caste, creed and religion. It is the duty and moral obligation of every citizen of India to execute and abide the fundamental duties while talking about the fundamental rights as per constitution of India. We as a citizen, are all accountable for the good or bad conditions of the nation and need to shift our attention into action to procure positive impacts on our community and country. He explained that an individual action performed by a person can change a life, but collaborative have a positive impact on the entire nation. Therefore, the duties of citizens count as a contribution to a flourishing society and nation as a whole.
Prof. Pandey in his welcome address stated that as a good and responsible citizen of the country, one must be aware of both the fundamental rights and duties. He also talked about basic approach of the constitution and said that comprehending all the rules and regulations proposed by the government may boost every citizen in achieving their responsibilities towards the country. We are all responsible for the protection and development of our country and every citizen has fractions of responsibilities and commitments for the development as well as prosperity and peace in the country. A country can flourish when its citizens are responsible enough to build a strong and powerful nation. The event was organized by Manoj Kumar and Ravi Kumar while Dr. Nisha Sharma presented a vote of thanks.
