Employment Information Cum Advisory Bureau, Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu in collaboration with Career Counselling Cell, Govt. Degree College, Marh today organised a one day workshop cum Awareness programme on “Career Prospects in Commerce and Environmental Sciences”.
Prof. Dr. Rakesh Kumar Koul, Principal of the college in his address said that career counselling will help the students to make decisions about their careers, clarify values, interests and skills for developing their overall personality. Such programmes and workshops act as a tool of growth and development for the students. The programme was held under the supervision of Prof. Kavita Suri, Director, DLL and coordinated by Dr. Rewa Khajuria, Counsellor, EIAB, DLL.
The special resource persons were Dr. Deepika Slathia, Associate Professor, Department of Environmental Scinces and Dr. Harleen Kour, Sr. Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, University of Jammu. Dr. Deepika Slathia, in her presentation, highlighted the environmental issues and current scope of environmental sciences in getting job oriented opportunities in the field of environmental journalism, environmental law, NGO’s, research analysts, scientist in Pollution Control Board, blogger of JK biodiversity, CSE,CEE, WWF in the future. Dr. Harleen Kour informed the students about the emerging term actuarial science, importance of fiscal policies, mutual funds, stock market, GST, SEBI, and SIP, entrepreneurship, concept of Self employment through bank loans and start up initiatives / schemes of Government of India.
About 60 students of the college while giving feedback appreciated the programme. An interactive session with the students was also held wherein students expressed their views and queries about job/ business oriented platforms. Dr.Shakun Sharma, Coordinator, Career Counselling Cell of the college conducted the proceedings of the programme and formal vote of thanks was given by Prof. Anjana Chib.
