In a series of events to honour the 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence, the National Service Scheme (NSS), Campus Units, University of Jammu, Jammu under the aegis of “Azadi ka Amrit Mahostav” organized “International Youth Day-22” .The theme of the event was “Intergenerational Solidarity: Creating a World for All Ages”. The Mahotsav is being celebrated as a Jan-Utsav in the spirit of Jan-Bhagidari. . To commemorate the event of International Youth Day , the Tiranga Rally was flagged off by the Chief Guest of the occasion, Prof. Umesh Rai , Hon’ble Vice- Chancellor and Chairman NSS, University of Jammu. A large gathering of Official , Faculty Members, NSS Volunteers, NSS Programme Officers, Faculty members of Department of Home Science along with Teachers, Staff and Children Surabhi Nursery School and Day Care Centre too joined in the celebrations . At the very outset the convener NSS, Campus Units, University of Jammu, formally welcomed all the dignitaries and participants. She further briefed them about the event. The programme was started with the distribution of National Flags to all gathered followed by patriotic song, “Jhanda Lehar Lehar ,Lehrata Hai ,Veer Shaheedo Ki Kurbani, Humko Yaad Dilata Hai , Aao Isko De Salami , Jan Gan Man Sab Mil Kar Gaye, Sar Ucha Kar Isko Farayeh, Bharat Ki Hum Shaan Badayeh , Bharat Mata Ki Jai- Bharat Mata Ki Jai”, sung by children and faculty of Surbhi Nursery School of Department of Home Science ,University of Jammu. and also tied Rakhis to the Honble Vice Chancellor, and others present to mark the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. They had also prepared Greeting Cards for all those present.
Thereafter the rally progressed around the Campus raising the Slogans , “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”, “Jai Hind”, “Vande Matram”, “ Pechno Hume Koun,Pyar se Humko Kehte Hai India Wale”. The Tricolour was waving in the air in every hand and the atmosphere was filled with the Tricolour. The NSS Volunteers holded banners in their hands on which slogans were written .Some of the slogans were,“ Solidarity across Generations is Key for Sustainable Development”, Unity in Diversity”, “ Kal,Aaj Aur Agale Kal Ki Pidi, Har Koi Chade Safalta Ki Sidi”, “ Yehi Hai Geet ,Yehi Hai Nara,Bharat Varsh Sabse Pyara, “ Skilled ,Educated and Healthy Youth are the Strength of a Nation”. All the participants participated in the event with zeal and enthusiasm.
The event was conducted under the mentorship of Prof. Umesh Rai, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor & Chairman NSS, University of Jammu, Jammu who lauded the efforts of all the participants for the successful conduct of the event and said that the National Flag reflects the country’s glorious ethos of unity in diversity ,unflinching faith in peace and harmony . The event was conducted under the supervision and guidance of Prof. Neeru Sharma, Convener, NSS Campus Units, University of Jammu, Jammu. Prof. Neeru Sharma said that such events help in the harmonious growth of the society and universal brotherhood.
Prominent among those who were present in the programme were Prof. Rajni Dingra, Dean Research Studies, Prof. Arvind Jasrotia, Registrar, Prof. Jasbir Singh, Dean Social Sciences, Prof.Pankaj Srivastava, President JUTA, Prof. Samridhi Arora, Head, Home-Science, Dr.A.R.Manhas, Dr. Sarika Manhas, Coordinator, Disability Initiatives, University of Jammu Dr.Savita Nayyer, NSS Programme Officer, various Faculty Members and staff of University of Jammu. The Surabhi Nursery School students were accompanied by Ms. Mamta Singh, Ms.Pooja and Ms. Seema Sharma, Nursery School Teachers along with Ms. Neelam and Ms.Anu, Helpers.
