The Department of Zoology, University of Jammu organized one day Workshop on “Essentials of Establishing Butterfly Park” on 20th of July, 2022 in the Department and Zoological Park, University of Jammu.

Prof. J.S. Kirti a renowned Entomologist from Punjabi University Patiala, was the resource person who has discovered more than 140 species of Lepidopterans. He spoke on the topic “Butterfly Park: An avenue for sustainable ecotourism” and introduced the scholars and M.Sc. students to the world of Butterflies and their role in ecosystem as Pollinators, detrivores, preventers of global warming by carbon sequestering. He spoke at length about the basic needs to setup Butterfly garden and also encouraged the students to setup their own venture. Followed by lecture, a visit to Butterfly Park was held to have hands on demonstration on establishment of Butterfly Park. He also appreciated the efforts of Department for its initiative of establishing Butterfly Park, one of its kinds in the UT of J&K.
