A gender equity program on the topic “Combating Gender Inequalities: A legal Perspective” was organized by the Department of Computer Science & IT. Dr. Monica Narang from The Law School, University of Jammu was the resource person. Dr. Monica Narang in her interactive presentation discussed various aspects of gender inequalities, the status of women in society, and the legal framework available for the same. Dr. Narang also deliberated on the Sexual Harassment at Workplace Act, 2013 besides the international perspectives for combating gender inequality.
Earlier, Prof. Pawanesh Abrol, Head, Department of Computer Science & IT while welcoming the participants emphasized that gender sensitization is very essential for students and employees while working in the workplace. Prof. Abrol further added awareness of the legal remedies for prevention, prohibition and redressal shall help inculcate a better working environment for the holistic development of all the stakeholders.
Dr. Lalit Sen Sharma, Professor and Provost Hostels, University of Jammu introduced the speaker to the participants. Prof. Sharma added that such interactive sessions on gender sensitization are of immense significance for a better academic environment.
