The Department of Library and Information Science, University of Jammu celebrated World Environment Day (WED 2022) and conducted various activities on the theme ‘Only One Earth’ with focus on “ Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature” on 9th June 2022 at 12:30 pm. in the department. Dr. Meghna Dhar, Incharge Head of the Department, welcomed all the participants gathered in the seminar room and laid the foundation for the program by giving a speech on environment. She said that transformative changes towards cleaner and greener lifestyles are necessary. A healthy environment is a key to a healthy and sustainable society. Dr. Pramod Kumar Singh, Sr.Assistant Professor, in his speech talked about the realistic solution like planting a tree, water harvesting, etc. for protecting our environment. Gagleen and Sonali, students of the department gave a speech on the occasion and talked about the various solutions like how to preserve our environment and also gave a slogan that “Be You First Not They”. Aisha, B.Lib.I.Sc. Student recited a poetry on the harsh reality that how the environment is being affected by humans and how the mother earth is crying due to such acts.
Further, there was a poster presentation and slogan writing in the department and participants were Prerna, Prinka, Priya, Charnleen, Archana, Prabhleen, Arpana, Simran and Poonam. Some of the slogans were ‘Let’s Make a Promise to the World that We Won’t Harm her Anymore and We will Make it a Healthier One”, “It’s Not Yours, Not Mine ,Its Ours ,Save the Earth,” “Don’t be Greedy, It’s Time to be Greeny”,“We have only One Earth ,So Cherish It”. “Our Planet is Precious and Only We can Save it,” “Save Trees ,Save Life”, “Heal the Earth ,Heal Our Future,” “Save Earth to Save Life, “Don’t Make Trees Rare ,Keep them With Care” All the participants participated in the event with great enthusiasm and fervour. Mr. Ashwin Kumar Kushwaha, Assistant Professor, was teacher in-charge of the event and conducted the proceedings of the programme. The event was overall coordinated by Dr. Meghna Dhar and she appreciated the efforts of young minds. Others who were present included Dr. Reenu Arti Thakur , Non-Teaching Staff Members, Research Scholars and Students of Department of Library & Information Science, University of Jammu, Jammu.
