The Department of Buddhist Studies, University of Jammu, Jammu organized a dialogue with Shri Niraj Kumar the Author of the book The Kalacakra Tantra: Vol I Translation, Annotation, Commentary on Monday. The program schedule of the event starts with a welcome address by Dr. Rajesh Sharma, Assistant Professor, Buddhist studies, University of Jammu. Earlier the function started with the tributes being paid to Buddha amidst prayer in Pali by the students of the Department. The chief guest of this function was Dean Arts, Prof. Shiv Dev Singh Manhas.
The distinguished speaker addressed the occasion, wherein Shri Niraj Kumar Ji talked about the important teaching of The Kalacakra Tantra, which was the last major Tantrik text written in India before the decline of Buddhism. The book has left an indelible influence over different regions of Asia in the last thousand years of its journey. Apart from the Vimalprabha commentary composed during the mid-11th century, there is no verse by verse commentary available to the general reader. Kumar has attempted translation of the full text from the Sanskrit original and has also contributed a new detailed commentary. This book locates mysterious Sambhala and Oddiyana. The book further delves into the chronology of legendary Kalki kings.
