In connection with the "World Dance Day" the Department of Kathak, Institute of Music & Fine Arts, University of Jammu today organized a Dance program where Sabha Mazid, a student of final year degree in the Dance Department performed traditional Kathak in "Teen Taal" followed by Virhaa with other students of Dance Department. Both the performances were highly appreciated by the audience. Mrs. Subha Mehta (KAS), Director Industries was the Chief Guest on the occasion while reputed vocalist & former Director Radio Jammu-Kashmir. V.K. Sambyal was the Guest of Honor, renowned poet & social activist sh. Vijay Thakur, Principal IMFA Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik along with Dr. Priya Dutta HOD Kathak Dance also grace the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. V.K. Sambyal lauded the efforts of the Dance Department for organizing a program on the occasion of World Dance Day. He informed that Kathak Dance is a difficult art form because it involves mental & physical strength. Despite that students in large are learning & practice Kathak Dance. Mrs. Subha Mehta congratulates IMFA for organizing a wonderful dance performance. She informed that the proposal for financial aid should be sent by IMFA to different agencies which are promoting art & culture well in time so that, Kathak be popularized more & more. She assured her full co-operation to IMFA for organizing such a wonderful program. She appreciated the students who performed in today's program. Earlier, in his welcome address Principal IMFA, Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik gave a brief resume of IMFA. He informed that IMFA was established in 1964. Till 2011, it was running as a part of the State Cultural Academy. But after 2011, its administrative control is under the University of Jammu. Describing vibrant Departments of IMFA, he assured the gathering that such a program would be organized on large scale too. Dr. Priya Dutta, HOD Kathak Dance, while presenting the vote of thanks, inform the gathering about the activities taken by Kathak Dance in the recent past. She informed that besides organizing many programs on the IMFA campus, the Department also organized many workshops in Rajouri & Reasi.

Mr. Danish Sharma made a small documentary on the Department of Kathak Dance which was screened on the occasion & was highly appreciated by the audience. Mr. Raj Kumar Sharma, Vijay Kumar, Dr. Anjul Mittal, Purshottam Kumar & Akshay Shaminotra accompanied the dancers on various instruments like harmonium, tabla, sitar, violin & pakhawaj. Students who performed in the event included Sabha Mazid,  Ankita Yadav, Ritika, Sunidhi, Akshay, Abhishek, Shivam & Umesh, whereas Teaching Assistant, Shivani Kapoor managed the event & program was conducted by Raj Kumar Sharma. A large no. of students, faculty members & members of civil society were also present on the occasion.
