To mark the celebration of World Theatre Day, which is celebrated all over the world on 27th of March, the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu inaugurated a theatre workshop for the university students. The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Prakash C. Antahal, Dean Students Welfare, Prof. Sanjana Kaul, Co-Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee and Dr. Garima Gupta, Assistant Dean, SW.
The workshop would be conducted by Sumeet Sharma, Drama Instructor at the Department of Students Welfare who is the recipient of the National Award for theatre direction. Around 40 students from different teaching departments of the university have registered for the workshop who will undergo theatre orientation and training during this workshop and will also prepare a theatre production.
Speaking at the occasion, Prof. Parkash Antahal asserted that Theatre has been acknowledged as one of the most effective tools for personality development all over the world and it has the potential to kindle positivity and creativity amongst youth post-Covid-19 crisis, thus the Department of Students Welfare has planned to organize a series of short-term theatre workshops for the students of different departments of University of Jammu and the same benefit would be extended to the students of affiliated colleges and offsite campuses.
Prof. Sanjana Kaul, in her address, expressed that theatre is highly effective in inculcating confidence, discipline, punctuality, positivity, and creativity amongst its practitioners and it plays a very important role in shaping the personalities of the students. Dr. Garima Gupta also congratulated the participants and asserted that such training programmes play a vital role in shaping the personalities of the students and also equip them with different skills.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Department of Students Welfare, through Campus Cultural Committee, has chalked out a vibrant calendar of events under the celebrations of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to provide a learning and performing platform to the students under the guidance of Prof. Prakash Antahal (Dean Students Welfare), Prof. Vishav Raksha (Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee), Prof Sanjana Kaul, Co-Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee), Prof B.K. Bajaj (Associate Dean SW), Dr. Garima Gupta & Dr. Pritam Singh (Assistants Deans SW), and members of Campus Cultural Committee.
