To acquaint the newly inducted students with the academic culture and curriculum of the institution, Reasi Campus of Jammu University organized an induction programme and One day workshop on SWAYAM (MOOCs) for the first semester students of the Department of Sociology for the session 2021-22. Prof Vishav Raksha, Head, Department of Sociology,   Jammu University, was the chief guest and key note speaker while Dr. N. Suresh Rao, Department of Computer Science, was resource person of SWAYAM (MOOCs) programme. The event was inaugurated with lighting of the lamp. Prof S.K. Pandey, Director, Reasi Campus, welcomed the chief guests, resource person and new incumbents of the first semester.  He gave the details about the Reasi campus and course curriculum of the CBCS, which is introduced for the first time in the campus. He also emphasized to the students to set up their reasonable goals, stay balanced and nurture their spark by guiding against disappointment, frustrations, unfairness and loneliness. Prof. Vishav Raksha appreciated the efforts of organizing induction programme for new students. She enlightened the students about the sociology as a subject for carrier option as well as its immense importance for the sustenance of society and its growth and development, which is an urgent need during contemporary time. She has also highlighted the issues of gender biasness existing in the society and requires more and more women empowerment. Following her keynote address, she had a great interactive session with the new students.

In the afternoon session, Dr N. Suresh Rao explained in detail about SWAYAM (MOOCs) courses to the newly inducted, which is introduced for the first time in the Reasi Campus. The MOOCs on the SWAYAM platform as per UGC norms for completing the course is now mandatory at PG and UG level. During his interaction, he briefed the students and the faculty members about the MOOCs course structure approved by the academic council of the Jammu university. He also said the basic philosophy of MOOCs on SWAYAM is learning for all, anytime, anywhere (AAA) and stated that the MOOCS on SWAYAM follow a Four Quadrant approach. The initiative of the MOOCs was adopted by the University of Jammu under the Digital initiatives in the year 2017 in the main campus. He further elaborated all the issues related to SWAYAM, right from registration process, enrolment to examination and certification.

Prof S. K. Pandey appreciated the efforts of the faculty members, non-teaching staff and the students for making the event successful. Dr. Nisha Sharma conducted the proceedings of the induction programme and workshop and Ms. Diksha Bharti presented the vote of thanks. Other faculty members Mr. Manoj Kumar and Mr. Ravi Kumar were also present on the occasion.
