Ramnagar Campus of the University of Jammu successfully organized a three-day field research trip (24-26 February, 2026) for the students of M.A. Sociology Semester II to McLeod Ganj and Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh. The academic visit was conducted under the theme “Occupation and Livelihood of People in Tourist Destinations; Environmental Issues.”
The primary objective of the trip was to provide students with first-hand experience of sociological fieldwork and research methodologies as part of their academic curriculum in the courses P2SOTC202 and P2SOTC203. During the visit, students actively engaged with local residents, workers, and stakeholders associated with tourism-related occupations. They employed observation and interview methods to collect data, enabling them to understand the dynamics of livelihood patterns in tourist destinations and the environmental challenges emerging from rapid tourism growth.
The field trip was organized as part of the Campus’s commitment to experiential learning and applied research in sociology. Flagging off the trip, Prof. Vinod Sharma, Director of Ramnagar Campus, reiterated the University’s vision of promoting experiential learning among young students and emphasized the importance of field-based inquiry in developing critical sociological perspectives.
The academic trip was coordinated by Dr. Bachitter Singh and Dr. Uma Prasher, faculty members of the Department of Sociology, Ramnagar Campus, who guided the students throughout the research process.
