University of Jammu Girls' Hostel Celebrates a Landmark Three-Day Extravaganza: Induction-cum-Orientation Programme, Duggar De Lok Khedan and Rangoutsav

Jammu, February 26: In a spectacular confluence of heritage, hospitality, and heartfelt celebration, the Girls' Hostel of the University of Jammu concluded a vibrant three-day event that will be etched in the memories of its residents for years to come. Spanning from February 23 to February 25, 2026, the grand occasion wove together the warmth of the Induction-cum-Orientation Programme, the exhilarating energy of Duggar De Lok Khedan—a festival of Folk Games of Duggar—and the fragrant, flower-drenched joy of Holi Mahotsav, leaving behind a trail of laughter, culture, and community spirit.
A three-day Induction-cum-Orientation Programme, Folk Games of Duggar, and Rangoutsav was held at the Girls’ Hostel premises of the University of Jammu, in which a large number of boarders and staff from the Girls’ Hostels participated. On the first day, an induction programme was organized for newly admitted boarders. On the second day, ‘Duggar De Lok Khedan’, the folk games of Duggar, were held, while on the third day, floral ‘Rangoutsav’ in connection with Holi festivities was celebrated.
Prof. Sangeeta Gupta, Dean Planning and Development, University of Jammu, was the Chief Guest at the programme, while Prof. Parmil Kumar, Head, Department of Statistics, was the Special Guest during Duggar De Lok Khedan. Prof. Sangeeta Gupta appreciated the efforts of the Girls’ Hostels administration, led by the Provost, the Wardens, Resident Wardens, and the entire staff, in organizing such a grand event. While speaking on the occasion, she stated that such cultural and team-based activities help boarders lead a healthy, stress-free life, learn teamwork, and stay rooted in culture and tradition.
Addressing the gathering, Provost, Girls’ Hostel, Prof. Shashi Manhas stated that the innovative concept of reviving forgotten local games of the Duggar region had a broader aim, as such endeavours help reconnect with the past, revive cultural ethos, and provide respite from the mechanical life shaped by modern instruments. She spoke about hostel life and highlighted the efforts of the hostel administration to provide the best facilities to the boarders. She urged the students to adhere to the rules and regulations of the Girls’ Hostels and to cooperate with the Wardens and staff to foster a family-like atmosphere so that no boarder faces any difficulty while pursuing her career. She further encouraged them to respect diverse values and cultures and strive to lead a life grounded in strong moral values.
This year’s induction was particularly special due to the presence of distinguished alumni of the Girls' Hostels, who were warmly invited to revisit the halls that once shaped them. Their homecoming added an extraordinary emotional dimension to the proceedings. These accomplished women, now professionals and administrators, walked through familiar corridors once again, their presence serving as living proof that the hostel nurtures not only students but leaders. Their stories, shared candidly with the new boarders, became a treasure trove of inspiration, humour, and hard-earned wisdom. The programme also aimed at sharing necessary information and acquainting new boarders with life at the hostel. The informative event was attended by a large number of female boarders and staff from all Girls’ Hostels.
The second day marked a celebration of revival and resilience through Duggar De Lok Khedan, a spirited festival of traditional folk games that brought the hostel grounds alive with competitive energy, laughter, and cultural pride. In an era dominated by screens and sedentary habits, the Girls' Hostel made a conscious effort to celebrate the games that once defined the playgrounds and open fields of the Duggar region. The event served as a vivid reminder that long before digital entertainment, communities bonded through games. Traditional games such as Pithu (Santolia), Fitti (Stapu), Gitte, Langdi Tang, Kikli, Rassi Kudd, and Tug-of-War were major attractions of the event. Boarders and staff alike appreciated the innovative idea and enthusiastic organization of these activities.
On the third day of the celebrations, faces glowed not from chemical pigments but from the natural blush of petals and pure happiness. Not a single drop of water was wasted during the celebration. The Rangoutsav demonstrated that the true essence of Holi lies not in water or synthetic colours, but in togetherness, love, and the spirit of celebration.
The Rangoutsav culminated in a vibrant cultural extravaganza presented by the boarders, showcasing folk dances and artistic performances representing the diverse cultural traditions of Jammu and Kashmir. The stage resonated with Dogri folk music, the grace of classical dance forms, portrayals of Radha and Krishna, and the vibrant energy of regional performances. The hostel premises were beautifully decorated with wall paintings created by boarders, reflecting culture, creativity, and teamwork.
Dr. Chinmoyee Maharana, Dr. Meenakshi Chowdhary, Dr. Bhagwati, Dr. Radhika, Dr. Sushma Devi, Dr. Neha, and Dr. Rubia, Wardens and Resident Wardens, were instrumental in organizing the event, along with Office In-charge Mrs. Seema, Mrs. Rupinder Kour, Mrs. Dimple, and Mrs. Jyotsana. Staff members and hundreds of girl boarders actively participated in the programme. The proceedings were conducted by Warden Dr. Chinmoyee Maharana, Dr. Meenakshi Chowdhary, and Resident Warden Dr. Bhagwati. The formal vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Meenakshi Chowdhary and Dr. Sushma Devi.
The water-free, flower-based Rangoutsav aligned with the spirit of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the vision of Vikshit Bharat. Duggar De Lok Khedan championed the preservation of intangible cultural heritage, while the induction programme’s inclusion of alumni reinforced the power of mentorship, memory, and institutional continuity. Collectively, the three-day celebration presented a portrait of an institution that not only provides accommodation to students but shapes responsible, culturally aware, environmentally conscious, and value-driven citizens.
