AC endorses Tourism and Travel Management subject in the Four Year Under Graduate Programme (FYUGP), adoption of the Sports Policy of JU, adoption of new IT Policy of JU
Prof Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu chairs the academic council meeting. At the outset, Prof Umesh Rai exuded that from this academic session, the University has started a new innovative programme “Design Your Degree”, which received commendation from various quarters. The Parliamentary Standing Committee of Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports endorsed the Design Your Degree initiative and recommended to the UGC to adopt a similar programme in other Universities of the Country. He further said that enrolment of University students in “Academic Bank of Credits” has been started and more than 30000 accounts of students have been created. University is ready with e-governance initiatives which include an Employee Management System, Personal Information System, Grievance Management System, Leave Management System, Inventory Management System, Core Communication System, Guest House Management etc, said the Vice-Chancellor. Prof Rai commended all those faculty members/officers involved in ensuring the successful completion of the historic “College on Wheels” journey that had more than 700 girls on a unique learning adventure. “The University of Jammu has excelled immensely in the fields of academics and research and this momentum has to be maintained with renewed vigour and in a team spirit”. Seeking continued and active participation of all the members during the deliberations on various issues related to academics, examinations and research, Prof. Rai said that these matters should be thoroughly examined in corroboration to the laid down statutes and procedures by the various academic bodies for further discussions.
Earlier, Prof. Anju Bhasin, Dean Academic Affairs, delivered a formal welcome address.Prof Neelu Rohmetra, Dean Research Studies also spoke on the occasion.
During the meeting, around 28 agenda items were presented by Prof Rahul Gupta, Registrar, University of Jammu. Threadbare discussions were held on each of the agenda items along with the Action Taken Report on the resolutions of the last Academic Council. The introduction of Two Years Master's Degree Programme in Political Science in the Reasi Campus, University of Jammu from the Academic Session 2024-25 was in principle endorsed. Introduction of Tourism and Travel Management subject in the Four Year Under Graduate Programme (FYUGP) as per National Education Policy (NEP)-2020 from the Academic Session 2024-25 was endorsed by the academic council. The proposal for initiating Ph.D programme in "Rural Studies" in the Department of Lifelong Learning was also endorsed. Grant of additional credits to the students of the University of Jammu who participated in the Innovative Project "College on Wheels"- J&K Gyanodya Express 2023 organized by the University of Jammu w.e.f. 19.11.2028 to 02.L2.2023. was duly endorsed.The academic council endorsed the adoption of the Sports Policy of the University of Jammu. The academic council also endorses the adoption of a new IT Policy for the University of Jammu in place of the existing IT Policy.

Various other important academic matters of the University related to admission, examination, research etc were also discussed in the Academic Council meeting, which was attended by Prof Arvind Jasrotia, Rector, Kathua Campus, Prof Parkash Anathal, Dean Students Welfare, Prof S. K Pandey, Director, Reasi Campus, Sh Sanjeev Mahajan, Controller of Examinations, Dr. Ginny Dogra, I/C Director DIQA, Deans of various Faculties,Heads of the Departments, Conveners of Boards of Studies, College Principals and other officials of the University.
