The Department of Statistics, University of Jammu, organized a lecture on “Opportunities for Statistics Students in Corporate World.” The lecture was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) M. Vishwanathaiah, Director, IFIM College, Bengaluru. The lecture was attended by the faculty members, research scholars and M.Sc. students of the department. Dr. Vishwanathaiah interacted with the students, giving them guidance regarding career opportunities in Statistics. He discussed the emerging and sought-after fields in which the students can build their career in Statistics and the set of skills required for those particular fields. He also discussed the current requirement of the market and what type of positions most companies are looking for. He also mentioned the top recruiters in India and Abroad. He guided the students on how they can identify their skill sets to set their career goals and what appropriate approaches they should take for achieving those goals. He answered various questions that the students had in their minds regarding a career in Statistics.
The event was managed and coordinated by the M.Sc. students under the mentorship of Prof Parmil Kumar, Head, Dept. of Statistics. MS. Himani Sharma and Kajal Saini welcomed the speaker by presenting a bouquet. Ms Sonia Chib introduced the speaker to the audience. Ms. Shivangi Khajuria presented the vote of thanks summarizing the activity.Prof. Rahul Gupta, Rector, Bhaderwah Campus, University of Jammu was the chief guest of the day. The faculty members of the department Prof Pawan Kumar, Dr V K Shivgotra and Dr Sunil Bhougal also attended the event.
