Cultural extravaganza, sports events dominate Day-1 of JU's Goonj 2024

Goonj-2024, a mega festival of Culture, Sports, literary activities, inaugurated by the Honourable Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha,  witnessed a vibrant display of sports and cultural activities, showcasing the immense talent pool within the youth of Jammu . The participants from the University and its affiliated colleges, Cluster University of Jammu and its constituent colleges, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, and Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, took part in a series of competitive events.

Participants engaged in a diverse range of activities, from sports competitions to cultural performances, reflecting the rich cultural heritage and sporting prowess of the region. 

In the cultural category, a myriad of events, including photography, Indian group song, poster making, light vocal, and skit competitions captivated audiences.

In sports category, Students participated in the competitive events of Volleyball(M),  Handball (W), Kabaddi (M), Football (W), Kho-Kho (W), Kho-Kho (M) and Basketball (M):

Volleyball (M):

1.      SMVDU Katra beat BGSBU Rajouri by 2-0 set score (25-11, 25-23)

2.      GDC Ramgarh beat GDC Kunjwani by 2-0 set score (25-17, 25-23)

3.      Cluster University of Jammu beats GDC Kathua by 2-0 set score (25-11, 25-09)

4.      SMVDU Katra beat PG. Deptt. JU by 2-1 set score (25-23, 21-25, 15-11)

1.      Cluster University Jammu beat GDC Khour by 2-0 sets scores (25-23, 25-17)

1.      GDC Bhaderwah beat BGSBU Rajouri by 10 points with match score (20-10)

2.      SMVDU Katra  beats GDC Poonch by 12 points with match score (24-12)

3.      Cluster University of Jammu beats GDC Doda by 07 points with match score (17-10)

4.      PG. Deptt. JU beat SMVDU Katra by 12 points with match score (22-10)

5.      GDC Samba beat GDC Bhaderwah by 08 points with match score (18-10)

6.      Cluster University of Jammu beat GDC Kathua by 16 points with match score (30-24)

Football (W):

1.      SMVDU Katra beats GDC Kathua by 2-1 goals

2.      SMVDU Katra beats PG. Deptt. JU by 2-0 goals

Kho-Kho (W):

1.      GCW Parade beat SMVDU Katra by 05 points with score (10-05).

2.      GDC Jindrah beat GDC Billawar by 10 points with score (20-10).

3.      GDC Ramnagar beat GCW Parade by 06 points with score (16-10).

4.      GDC Kathua beat GDC Jindrah by 02 points with score (12-10).

Kho-Kho (M):

1.      PG. Deptt. JU beat SMVDU Katra by 10 points  with match score (16-06)

2.      GDC Samba beat BGSBU Rajouri by 02 points with match score (12-10)

3.      GDC Kathua beat GDC Samba by 07 points with match score (17-10)

 Basketball (M):

1.      GCET Jammu beat Cluster University of Jammu with match score (61-54)

2.      SMVDU Katra beat BGSBU Rajouri  with match score (33-2)

3.      GDC Kathua beat GDC Kunjwani  with match score  (65-36

The winners of these events will be awarded during the Valedictory Function scheduled for March 20, 2024.  

Later in the day, while interacting with the participating students from various Universities and Colleges, Prof Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor University of Jammu commended the efforts of students for exhibiting their talent. He appreciated the camaraderie and sportsmanship of the participating teams and hoped that they will showcase their best talent.

Emphasizing the significance of Goonj 2024 as a platform for nurturing talent and fostering a culture of excellence in both cultural pursuits and sports endeavors, Prof Rai said the mega event offers a unique opportunity to students to showcase their abilities in varied fields on a larger canvas.

“Sky being the limit for talent, I am confident that each participant will put in their best to excel in the chosen field”, the Vice Chancellor said, exuding confidence that they will emerge as role models for others to emulate.

 

In addition to the competitions, the teaching departments of the University of Jammu, affiliated colleges and Cluster University of Jammu seized the opportunity to showcase their best practices. They presented their innovative approaches through poster presentations, PPTs, and banners, highlighting their contributions to academics and research.
