Department of Environmental Sciences, University of Jammu, organised a one-day field trip to Jungle Gali and Saroli hills as part of its academic curriculum. Prof. Deepika Slathia, Head of the Department, while flagging off the field trip, highlighted the importance of taking learning beyond the classroom. She said that such visits give students an opportunity to experience nature firsthand, connect classroom concepts with real-life observations, and develop a better understanding of the environment around them. The visit offered students an opportunity to closely observe and understand the diverse landscapes and ecological features of the Jammu Himalaya. Dr. Neeraj Sharma, Teacher In-charge of the field trip, guided the students in understanding the changing landscape and vegetation patterns along the elevational gradient. He highlighted the distinct stratification of oak, chir pine, and blue pine forests, while drawing attention to the region's other geological features. The students also observed the rural livelihood practices and socio-economic conditions of the local communities, gaining insights into their close association with the surrounding natural environment.

As part of the practical orientation, students visited springs and a stream at Jungle Gali. With the assistance of research scholars, they recorded several species of birds and butterflies, gaining valuable hands-on experience in biodiversity observation and field documentation.

Adding a vibrant dimension to the trip, the students also organised a welcome party for the freshers, featuring a variety of competitions and performances. Ms. Rasman Kour and Mr. Milan Singh were adjudged Ms. Fresher and Mr. Fresher, respectively. Around 50 students and research scholars participated in the trip, along with faculty members, Prof. Piyush Malaviya, Dr. Rakesh Kumar, and Dr. Anshu Gupta.
