ICccR & HRM, University of Jammu, Conducts Industry Immersion Programme for MBA (IB) Students

The International Centre for Cross Cultural Research and Human Resource Management (ICccR & HRM), University of Jammu, successfully organized a three-day Industry Immersion Programme for students of MBA (International Business), Semesters I and III.
This initiative, under the dynamic leadership of Professor Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor, reaffirms the University of Jammu's commitment to experiential learning and strong industry-academia collaboration, preparing its students to excel in the global business landscape.The industry immersion visit aimed to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world industrial experience, providing students with an in-depth understanding of manufacturing, logistics, and international business practices through visits to prominent industries in Ludhiana, Punjab.
Day 1: Industry Interaction and Export Insights
The programme commenced with an interactive session at the Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings (CICU), Ludhiana. Students interacted with Mr. Upkar Singh Ahuja, President, CICU, and Mr. Honey Sethi, General Secretary, CICU, who elaborated on India’s export ecosystem, competitiveness, and the importance of maintaining Quality, Cost, and Delivery (QCD) standards in international business.
A specialized session on export documentation and trade procedures followed, conducted by the CICU management team, offering students valuable insights into international trade operations.
Day 2: Exploring Logistics and Manufacturing Excellence
On the second day, students visited Hind Terminals Pvt. Ltd., an inland container depot (dry port) in Ludhiana. The visit provided firsthand exposure to the processes involved in export-import logistics, including container handling, documentation, cost structures, and multimodal transport operations.
Later, students toured Vardhman Spinning and General Mills, the flagship manufacturing unit of the Vardhman Group, established in 1962. They observed the end-to-end yarn production process, from raw cotton to finished yarn, and interacted with company officials to understand how Vardhman integrates innovation and quality in its domestic and export operations.
Day 3: Learning from Market Leaders
The third day featured a visit to Hero Cycles, one of India’s oldest and most reputed cycle manufacturers. Established in 1956, the plant has an annual production capacity of 7.5 million cycles. Students gained exposure to advanced manufacturing techniques such as forging, welding, electroplating, and powder coating, and learned about Hero’s international expansion through acquisitions like Avocet Sports (UK), HNF (Germany), and Firefox Bikes (India).
The final industrial visit was to Star Foods Pvt. Ltd., located in the Mega Food Park, Ladhowal, Punjab. Students explored the food processing and supply chain systems of the company, which supplies products to major food chains such as KFC. The visit emphasized key aspects of quality assurance, hygiene standards, and operational efficiency in the food industry.
Bridging Academia and Industry
The three-day immersion programme proved to be a highly enriching experience, enabling students to gain a practical understanding of modern industrial systems and management practices. The exposure to multiple sectors—textiles, manufacturing, logistics, and food processing—helped students connect their academic learning with on-ground realities of global business operations.
Through their interactions with industry professionals, students also received career guidance and developed a deeper appreciation for the skills of innovation, adaptability, and technical proficiency necessary in today’s competitive job market.

The programme was organized under the leadership of Prof. Hardeep Chahal and coordinated by Dr. Bhanu Pratap Singh, Assistant Professor, ICccR & HRM. Faculty members Dr. Shivani Rana, Dr. Swati Sharma and Dr. Bhanu Pratap Singh accompanied the students throughout the visit.
