Bhaderwah Campus JU launches six-month certificate course in music
Bhaderwah, May 27: The Bhaderwah Campus , University of Jammu added a new chapter to its academic and cultural journey with the launch of a Six-Month Certificate Course in Music. Introduced under the School of Education, the course aims to provide students with a platform to learn, appreciate, and perform music in a structured and formal setting.
The inauguration ceremony was held on campus and was graced by Prof. Rahul Gupta, Rector, Bhaderwah Campus, as the Chief Guest.
Addressing the gathering of faculty, students, and staff, Prof. Rahul Gupta applauded the introduction of the music course and underscored the importance of embedding creative arts within the academic ecosystem. “Music elevates the soul and bridges communities. Through this certificate course, we are offering a platform that not only nurtures talent but also reinforces the cultural ethos of our region,” he said.
Prof. Gupta further remarked that the course represents a meaningful step toward making the Bhaderwah Campus a hub of interdisciplinary learning. He expressed hope that the initiative would encourage young learners to pursue their artistic aspirations alongside academic goals, thus preserving and celebrating the diverse musical heritage of Jammu and Kashmir.
Dr. Kuljit Singh, Academic Coordinator and In-Charge of the Music Course, presented an overview of the program. He elaborated that the course is designed to offer both theoretical grounding and practical exposure in music, creating a balanced and immersive learning experience. Open to all candidates who have completed matriculation (Class 10), the course will admit students twice a year—in April and October. The evaluation framework includes written exams, oral assessments, and live concert performances, ensuring a comprehensive training module.
Highlighting the curriculum's design, Dr. Singh shared that the course integrates classical music traditions with modern sensibilities, thereby appealing to a broad spectrum of musical interests. With expert instructors, hands-on learning, and opportunities for public performances, the program aims to instill artistic discipline, confidence, and expressive depth in students.
With this new offering, the Bhaderwah Campus strengthens its commitment to promoting regional culture and enriching student life through meaningful academic and extracurricular opportunities. The Six-Month Certificate Course in Music is expected to attract budding musicians from across the region and serve as a cultural beacon in the University’s academic landscape.
