The students of Design Your Degree (DYD), University of Jammu mesmerized the audience with a captivating performance of the play 'Kabira,' based on select excerpts from Bhisham Sahni's renowned work, 'Kabira Khada Bazar Main.' The production, brilliantly directed by Sumeet Sharma, Drama Instructor at the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu, unfolded as a major project of the DYD curriculum.
Under the overall supervision of the faculty of Design Your Degree, the performance garnered a standing ovation from a distinguished audience, including Prof Dinesh Singh, Vice Chairman of Higher Education Council Government of JK UT, Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor University of Jammu, Deans, Directors, Rectors, Heads, Officers, Staff, and proud parents of the DYD students.
The performance was made successful with the active contribution of Department of Students Welfare & Institution of Music and Fine Arts, University of Jammu.
During the event, Prof. Dinesh Singh, Vice Chairman, Higher Education Council, Government of JKUT, praised the participants and the team for crafting a play that not only portrayed the life of Kabira but also incorporated a modern perspective, focusing on 'Viksit Bharat.'
Prof. Dinesh Singh extended his appreciation to the students who, with grace and skill, brought 'Kabira' to life on the stage. Their performance was acknowledged not only for its artistic merit but also for the cultural and educational significance it brought to the audience.
On this occasion, Prof. Umesh Rai expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the dedicated efforts invested in training students for this outstanding performance.
Prof Umesh Rai commended the DYD team for their commitment to nurturing talent and providing a platform for students to showcase their creativity. He particularly praised the team's efforts in preparing the students for the spellbinding performance of 'Kabira,' a play that intricately portrayed the life, struggles, and contributions of Kabir Das.
The play masterfully depicted the life, struggles, literary, and spiritual contributions of Kabir Das in a creative manner. Through this production, an earnest effort was made to raise awareness among youth about India's significant contributions in various fields.
The soulful music, composed by Sh. Suraj Singh, who also served as the lead singer, was supported by Vijay Anand, Rakesh Jasotra, Amit Anand, Sohil Wani. Sunny Mujoo choreographed the production, and Amarjeet Singh designed the sets, while Shammi Dhamir handled makeup.
The chorus, featuring Divya Bharti, Andrew, Damneet Kour, Arpna Kumari, Dheeraj Kumar, Jatin Kumar Mehra, Abhijeet Thakur, added a harmonious touch. Kulbhushan Thakur and Arif Paul managed the sound.
The stellar cast of the play included Malhar Khadyal, Pawandeep Singh, Adil Mahajan, Bhoomi Samnotra, Suhani Behl, Harshit Kour, Ishaan Uppal, Avichal Badyal, Adil Mahajan, Narayan Choudhary, Shubham Sharma, Manjot Singh, Tavishi Amla, Neamat Kour, Diya Rani, Paridhi Mahajan, Vidhita Arora, Kashvi Vaid, Sarnish Kour, Radhey Sharma, Mohd. Sajid, Gourav Sharma. Backstage Coordination was flawlessly executed by Divya Verma, Raghav Sharma, Avinash Lakhnotra & Sunny Singh.
