University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Kathua Campus, University of Jammu organized a Blood Donation Camp in collaboration with the Work for Blood Donor Society (WBDS), J&K for thalassemia child patients in the run-up to International Blood Donation Day. The WBDS team devotedly worked under the guidance of Mr. Akhil Sharma, founder (WBDS. After proper donor screening and medical examination of all the voluntary donors, students, faculty members, and civilians of Kathua donated blood for the noble cause.
Accentuating the importance of blood donation, Dr. Meenakshi Kilam, Rector, Kathua Campus, University of Jammu said that blood donation is the opportunity to gift somebody with new life and every healthy person should donate blood with full willingness as it is for the well being of every human being. She talked about the virtues of regular, voluntary and unpaid blood donations and also highlighted the commitment of Kathua Campus (JU) to creating a conducive environment. She further added that an adequate amount of blood is required every day in all the health care institutions to meet the requirements of the patients in need of blood. Further, she reiterated that such programmes encourage and motivate civil society in general and students in particular. She administered the blood donation pledge and also praised the team at WBDS for helping the children suffering from thalassemia.
Dr. Sourabh Shastri, Incharge Coordinator, UIET, welcomed the WBDS and medical team and said that blood donation is the moral responsibility of all healthy people to donate regularly so that blood banks have sufficient units available in case of emergencies. He further said the blood donation camp was organised to create awareness among faculty members and students on campus. On the occasion, Shiwangi Rajwal (B.Tech, Civil) and Anamika Sharma (B.Tech, CSE) recited the poems whereas Nishant Manhas (B.Tech, CSE) gave a detailed presentation on the benefits of donating blood. A group of UIET students performed a skit emphasising the importance of blood donation. Er. Palvi Verma delivered vote of thanks and Er. Komal Khadotra coordinated the whole programme. Yhe members of WBDS including Mr. Rajinder Singh, Mr. Bhuvan Balloria and Koushal Rajput along with Dr. Tasir and his team from GMC, Jammu were also present during the programme.
