University Entrepreneurship and Skill development Centre organized its first batch of Life Skills Workshop on Employability Skills for Being Future Ready held w.e.f 12th December, 2022 to 16th December, 2022. The first batch was attended by the 3rd semester students of Department of Zoology and Department of Statistics as both the departments had opted for the same module. There were 54 participants who showed their active participation by improving their skills for being future ready
.
The first session i.e “the Keynote” was taken by Dr. Anil Gupta, Department of SHTM. He introduced the importance of soft skills for better employability opportunities and laid stress upon being future ready in today’s competitive world.
The second session was on “Know yourself” taken by Dr. Garima Gupta, Department of English University of Jammu. She acquainted the students with the importance of self awareness. Everything stems from “self” and a consciousness of this enables a person to make better and informed choices.
The third Session was on “Developing Positive Attitude” taken by Ms. Swati Basotra. She elucidated how attitude defined the quality of life of an individual and how attitude is the difference between success and failure.
The fourth session was on “Forming Values” by Ms. Swati Basotra. She elaborated on a value driven lifestyle that leads to a richer and fuller life and how it increasing the productivity and contribution of an individual.
The Fifth session was on “Improving Perception” by Dr. Pallavi Sachdeva, Department of Directorate of lifelong Learning, University of Jammu. Perception is what defines our world view. The resource person explained through examples and activities how positive perception can redefined the life choices of a person.
The sixth session was on “Listening Skills” by Dr. Garima Gupta, Department of English University of Jammu. Listening Skills is the first among communication skills and the most basic for good interpersonal communication. She elaborated on this point while giving tips for better listening skills.
The seventh session was on “Body Language” by Ms. Mansi Rattan. The non-verbal cues of body language are as important and at times more important than the verbal communication. She give practical tips for positive body language to students.
The eighth session was on “Etiquettes and Manners” by Ms. Mansi Rattan. She demonstrated basic etiquettes and manners to the students that are an indispensible learning for any educated person.
The ninth session was on “Art of Speaking” by Ms. Geetika Kohli. She shared the basics of speaking skills with the students right from holding basic conversations to public speaking.
The tenth session was on “Digital Literacy” by Mr. Anik Gupta. He shared the latest developments in digital literacy and also a few e-resource that the students could use to increase their knowledge.
The eleventh session was on “Effective Use of Social Media” by Ms. Jasleen Kaur. She acquainted the students with ways and means of using social Media for effective networking, image building and creating career opportunities.

The twelfth session was on “Truth as Universal Value” by Ms. Swati Basotra. She shared with the students the importance of truth as a foundation of personal and professional life. She conducted various activities to make the students realize significance of truth in life.
The thirteenth session was on “Preparing CV/Resume” by Ms. Geetika Kohli. The session focused on training the students to prepare effective CV/Resume with impact using latest templates.
The fourteenth session was on “Interview Skills” by Ms. Geetika Kohli. This session trained the students on the Do’s and Don’ts of interview and how to be ready psychologically and emotionally for facing an interview.
The Fifteenth session was on “Presentation Skills” by Ms. Rashi Taggar. Presentation Skills have become an indispensible part of any professional activity. Even academics makes an extensive use of this skill in teaching-learning. This session trained the students in handling a PPT.
The sixteenth session was on “Brainstorming and GD” by Ms. Rashi Taggar. The session focused on training the students in Brainstorming and GD skills which have become an integral part of any interview.
The seventeenth session was on “Time Management” by Ms. Geetika Kohli. Time Management is a pressing concern in any walk of life. The resource person shared tips and strategies for effective tie management by the students.
The eighteenth session was on “Stress Management” by Dr. Pallavi Sachdeva Department of Directorate of lifelong Learning, University of Jammu. Stress is a constant in contemporary life style. The resource person dealt with different ways that students can reduce the stress quotient in their life.
The nineteenth session was on “Gratitude” by Dr. Garima Gupta, Department of English University of Jammu. Gratitude is a culmination of all the positive values, healthy perception, time and stress management and positive attitude that enables one to recognize the blessings in their life and be grateful for them. The session focused on bringing an awareness of gratitude to the students.
At the end the valedictory function was organized and Prof. Naresh Padha, Dean Academic Affairs was the Chief Guest. The certificates were handed over to the concerned heads for the distribution of the students. Prof. Naresh Padha in his address expressed his happiness over the conduct of Life Skills Program and reiterated the need for such programs in University of Jammu. He also informed that as per the new University Calendar for the session 2022-23, all the departments shall have to allow their students to learn various skills outside classroom and wished that UESDC will be able to add value to the students during their stay in the University.
During the program the students also shared their feedback and suggested that more such programs should be organized. Prof. Alka Sharma, Convener University Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Centre gave the welcome address and Dr. Garima Gupta, Department of English conducted the proceedings and presented the vote of thanks.
