The Office of the NSS Programme Co-ordinator in collaboration with the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu, organized the ‘Unity Run’ 2022, to commemorate the birth anniversary of the ‘Iron Man of India’- Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on 31st October, 2022. More than 200 NSS volunteers from the University campus, Govt College for Women, Parade and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan Participated in the run. The run began from the GCW Parade and culminated at the University Campus.
Prof. Naresh Padha, Dean Academic Affairs was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Earlier, Prof Prakash Antahal, Dean Students Welfare welcomed the volunteers and the Programme Officers from the colleges and University Campus. Prof. Antahal highlighted the role and contribution of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel ji in the freedom movement and also in Uniting India as a great Nation. He also appreciated and motivated the volunteers for their participation in the event. The Chief Guest of the occasion Prof Naresh Padha, in his inaugural address congratulated the office of the Programme Coordinator for organizing the event on a large scale. He also highlighted the importance of the Unity Day and the role of Sardar Vallabh Bhai ji in the integration of the Princely States of India. He also led the volunteers in taking Unity-Pledge on this auspicious day to spread the message of integrity and security. Dr. Hema Gandotra, NSS Coordinator, University of Jammu in her address motivated the students to undergo such activities and appreciated their zeal and enthusiasm for participation in the event. She also deliberated on the role of NSS volunteers in bringing peace, harmony and integrity in the society. An exhibition on the life and contributions of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel was also organized for the students and stakeholders on the campus of University of Jammu. The volunteers later had a Unity Run on the campus also and chanted the unity slogans making the environment more vibrant. The Programme was attended by Prof. Rakesh Vaid, Dr. N. Suresh Rao, Dr. Mandeep, Dr Monika Bhardwaj, NSS PO, JU, Dr Parvaiz Ahmed, NSS PO GCW, Parade and others. Dr. Vinay Thusso, media officer of University of Jammu looked after the entire coverage of the event. Mr. Sumeet Shrama along with the technical staff of DSW looked after the entire event under the guidance of Prof. Vishav Raksha, Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee and Prof. Sanjana Kaul, Co-Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee. The office staff of the NSS programme coordinator, Mr. Nagarmal and Mr. Jagoo Singh provided assistance.
