IMFA) University of Jammu today organized one-day Seminar on the topic “The importance & uniformity of Nritt Hasta in Kathak Dance

Kathak Dance Department, Institute of Music & Fine Arts (IMFA) University of Jammu today organized a one day Seminar on the topic “The importance & uniformity of Nritt Hasta in Kathak Dance” at Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium, University of Jammu.

Dr. Meenakshi Kilam, Director DIQA and RECTOR Kathua campus was the Chief Guest whereas eminent writer & President Dogri Sanstha, Jammu Prof. Lalit Mangotra was the Guest of Honour & Vivekanand Rai IRS, Director Tourism, Jammu was the Special Guest.

In his welcome address, Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik, Principal IMFA lauded the activities of Kathak Dance Department, IMFA in different part of the region. Overawed by the creative dexterity of the Department, he assured the Department to impart both monetary & moral support as well as to keep pace with Kathak Arena of J&K UT. He outlined the remarkable achievement & inroads the Department recently underwent with a difference.

In her keynote address, Dr. Priya Dutta, HOD Kathak Dance Department (IMFA) threw light upon the importance of holding the Seminar & its fruitful impact upon the spectators. She in-depth disclosed that in Kathak Dance implementation of “Nritt Hasta” to yield fruitful result to design curriculum of Kathak Dance in schools, colleges & universities. On the occasion, students of Kathak Dance Department performed Ganesh Vandana & Parampragat kathak designed and choreographed by Dr. Priya Dutta.

Prominent among those who delivered their expressions over the medium were Dr. Parul Purohit, Prof. Bhawana Grover, Guru Shikha Khere & Prof. Kumkum Dhar. The views of the above experts were very informative. All the present students, scholars & teaching faculty of different schools benefited from both sessions taken by experts.

In her address, Dr. Meenakshi Kilam congratulated & appreciated the efforts of the Dance Department & further said that this type of seminar will definitely play an important role in the introduction of performing arts in our National Education Policy. Whereas Prof. Lalit Mangotra too appreciated the efforts of Dr. Priya Dutta & also mentioned that such type of Seminars, Workshops & Conferences will bring change in the curriculum of Kathak Dance which would be beneficial for our coming generations. Vivekananda Rai assured on behalf of the Tourism Department to do their best for the propagation & upliftment of Kathak Dance in J&K UT to the fullest extent. In this Seminar, Dance teachers of different schools of Jammu, scholars & students took part with great enthusiasm.

The proceedings of the Seminar were conducted by Raj Kumar Behrupia & vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Priya Dutta.
