Dept of Punjabi JU organises Symposium on Dr. Monojit’s Contribution to Punjabi Satire

Under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav,  A Symposium on Dr. Monojit’s Contribution to Punjabi Satire & Book Release Ceremony was organized by Post Graduate Department of Punjabi, University of Jammu in collaboration with Punjabi Lekhak Sabha (PLS), Jammu at the Seminar Hall of the Department of Punjabi today. Prof. Mohd. Reyaz Ahmed, HoD Urdu Deptt. was the chief guest on this occasion whereas Dr. Arvinder Singh Aman, Additional Secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages was the special guest on this occasion. ‘Ik Naal Ik Free’, a Punjabi satire novel written by Dr. Monojit was released on this occasion. A large number of intellectuals, writers, research scholars, students and others attended the Symposium.  

The programme started with the welcome address of Prof. Baljeet Kour, HoD, Deptt. of Punjabi, JU. In her address, she said that the Department has started organizing various events of literary interaction between literary people, research scholars, students, faculty and the public in general.

Two papers were presented by Research scholars Chanpreet Kour and Amanpreet Kour on the subject and craft of Dr. Monojit’s satire Novel ‘Ik Naal Ik Free’ and also express their views regarding the journey of Dr. Monojit in the field of Punjabi satire and various other aspects of his creative writing.

Dr. Harjinder Singh, (Assistant Professor) of the Punjabi Department in his paper presented his views on the ideological perspective of the satire novel of Dr. Monojit. Dr. Pritam Singh, Asstt. Prof. expressed his views by highlighting the Socio-Cultural issues reflected in the satire literature of Dr. Monojit. The well-known writer Dr. Baljeet Singh Raina spoke on the overall contribution of Dr. Monojit in Punjabi literature. A well-known Punjabi-Pahari poet Swami Anternirav and a prominent drama writer S. Devinder Singh Nagrik also express their views about the Dr Monojit’s achievement and contribution to the field of Punjabi Literature.

Dr. Monojit thanked the organizers to hold a symposium at the Seminar hall of the Deptt. of Punjabi. According to him the direct interaction between communities would help the students and research scholars of the academic institutes in a big way. He also gave a brief of his creative process in writing satire. 

In his address the chief guest Dr. Mohd. Reyaz Ahmed appreciated the Deptt. of Punjabi for conducting such literary events regularly. He said that this would motivate other departments to organize such interactive programmes for the better exchange of literary content among the masses. He complimented all the contributors to make the event fruitful in all respects.

Dr. Arvinder Singh Aman in his presidential remark appreciated all the speakers who presented their papers and views in the Symposium. He also highlighted various aspects of the literary works of Dr. Monojit, especially in respect of the novel released.

 The proceedings of the program were conducted by Dr. Pritam Singh, Asstt. Prof. & Organizing Secretary of the event. Dr. Harjinder Singh, Asstt. Prof. & Coordinator of the program extended the vote of thanks to all the presented dignitaries/members of civil society, writers of different languages & faculty members, scholars and students from various departments of the University of Jammu.
