Kathua Campus, University of Jammu organized its maiden Felicitation Programme on the eve of National Sports Day 2022 with the aim to felicitate the sportspersons who have brought laurels in the field of sports for Kathua district in the International and National Games. This initiative of the Campus is in the series of initiatives aimed at bringing close the civil society of Kathua and Kathua Campus for contributing societal development of Kathua district. International medalists including Mr. Gulzar Ahmed, Mr. Ravi Jassal and Ms. Monika Sharma and National medalists including Mr. Kewal Krishan, Mr. Gharjeet Singh, Mr. Gafoor Ahmed, Mr. Rhubham Sharma, Mr. Aryan Singh Choudhary, Mr. Vipul Yashovardhan, Mr. Bhupinder Singh, Mr. Harsh Deep Singh and Ms. Aditi Khurana from Kathua district were felicitatedin the said event.Mr. Shabeel Ahmed (National Gold Medalist), General Secretary, Powerlifting Association Kathua, Mr. Ranjit Singh Pathania, President & Founder of Barwal Athletes Club and Mr. Pankaj Spolia (National Bronze Medalist), Judo Coach in Department of Youth Services and Sports were also felicitated for their contribution in the field of sports in Kathua region. Dr. Meenakshi Kilam, Rector, Kathua Campus, University of Jammu talked about the celebration of National Sports Day all over India today for honoring the dedication and contribution of nation’s sports heroes and champions for bringing laurels for the country. She congratulated all the sportspersons from Kathua district who brought medals in games at International and National level and encouraged them for more dedication and contribution in the field of sports. She reiterated that the building/grounds of Kathua Campus is open for the youth of the region for practicing sports. She further said that Kathua Campus is committed towards reaching out to the civil society through its many new initiatives. While emphasizing on the importance of being fit and healthy, Dr. Kilam encouraged the audience in general and students of the campus in particular to actively participate in sports activities. Further, she said that the Government of India has taken number of initiatives to promote sports and thereby, a new Sports Policy for the UT of J&K was recently framed to focus on the youth of J&K for their participation in sports. Earlier, Dr. Sourabh Shastri, Convener, Sports Committee, Kathua Campus, University of Jammu welcomed the audience and said regular sports/fitness activities keep us physically and mentally fit.He aimed towards more progressive efforts that shall be put in future so that youth get benefited from these types of events. Ms. Anjally Gupta coordinated the whole programme whereas technical support was aided by Dr. Sunny Sharma. Dr. Zahin Ansari delivered formal vote of thanks. Mr. Amit Sharma, Mr. Pankaj Khajuria, Ms. Ritika Goyal, Mr. Pranav Ratta, Dr. Mahesh Koul, Mr. Gaurav Sharma, Ms. Thiharika Nath and Ms. Kamakshi were also present
