JU VC Inaugurates lecture series on IPR under Industry Academia Partnership Programme of JU

Industry Academia Partnership Centre (IAPC), University of Jammu is intended to create an ecosystem of Industry Academia linkages for benefit of society at large. Marching on this mission an IPR cell was created under IAPC to adopt a sound IP strategy in order to secure IPR for a large base of knowledgeable Faculty and highly talented Students in the University pursuing regular projects and research activities having potential for innovation. IAPC, JU started the lecture series on IPR today. Vice – Chancellor, Prof. Manoj K Dhar, Chief Guest of the event formally inaugurated the Lecture series on IPR . In his address, he appreciated the initiative of Prof. Kamal K Kapoor, Convener, and IAPC for organizing lecture series on IPR and congratulated team IAPC for their efforts towards such initiatives which is the need of the hour. Prof. Dhar in his Special remarks lauded Mr. Abhay for his thought provoking lecture  and appreciated the way he made use of live examples and real life experiences in his presentation. Prof. Dhar apprised the audience about his vision about the IPR cell and suggested more lectures and workshops should be conducted frequently so as to sensitize and support the faculty, scholars and students regarding IPRs and Patents. He accosted that in the pursuit of knowledge, there are no answers and if one tries to find out answers to the unflinching and unshrinking questions, by crossing academic boundaries and communicating Science and registering various patents and copy rights one will reach the pinnacles of success. Prof. Dhar counseled the audience to break the shackles of learning and must learn new things that are happening across the globe. Prof. Dhar suggested IAPC to hold a skill based workshop on the theme Science Communication to enhance the skills of research scholars in scientific writing. Speaking on the occasion Prof. Kamal K Kapoor, Convener IAPC and Head, Department of Chemistry, University of Jammu gave a brief description and objectives of IAPC. He informed that ‘Lecture series on IPR’ has been launched as one of the initiatives to train the faculty, students and research scholars in various aspects of IPR. Dr. Abhay SD Rajput, Science Communication Specialist and Scientist from Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune was the invited speaker. He delivered a lecture on “Science Communication, IPRs and Ethics: Where do we lack?" The speaker wonderfully explained the concept of Science communication and its relevance for the scientists and society. The speaker used various anecdotes and real life experiences for a wonderful expression of his ideas. He discussed importance of creating intellectual property and communicating it to the society for the larger benefit. Dr. Rajput emphasized on the ideas of Publish or Perish, Patent and Flourish. He motivated the science students to focus on communicating their research for benefit of the society. He also elaborated how scientists need to be careful about major retractions in scientific research which are due to misconduct, fabrication, duplication and plagiarism. The speaker then also inspired the students to read various book such as Nonsense in Indian Science, Structure of Scientific Revolution and Inner Engineering etc so as to have understanding on the role of science communication in scientific career. He also sensitized the scholars on issues of IPR and ethics in science. Earlier Prof. Rajnikant, Dean Sciences and Director CDC, University of Jammu in his special remarks talked about the relevance of Science Communication in modern times and appreciated the speaker for choosing a fascinating theme for the session. Dr. Rachna from The Business School, University of Jammu, Member IAPC and Moderator for the session formally welcomed the invited guests. Later, Dr. Nisha Kapoor, from the School of Biotechnology and Member IAPC presented formal vote of thanks to the chief guest, eminent speaker and to Convener IAPC. Thanks were also presented to all the participants including dignitaries, faculty members, scholars and students from different departments. Prof. Meena Sharma, Coordinator Campuses, Prof. Seema Langar, Dean Life Sciences, Head Dept. of Zoology and Coordinator Institute of Human Genetics, Prof. B.K. Bajaj, Director School of Biotechnology, Prof. Geeta Sumbli, Prof. Namrata Sharma, Prof. Veenu Kaul, HOD Botany, Prof. Sanjana Koul from School of Biotechnology and Prof Sanjay from Department of Environment Sciences graced the occasion with their presence.
