Parisar Safai Abhiyaan” (Under Swachhata Hi Seva, 2025)

The Institute of Human Genetics, in collaboration with the Green Campus Task Force (GCTF-JU), actively participated in the Parisar Safai Abhiyaan organized under the national campaign Swachhata Hi Seva 2025. Faculty members, research scholars, students, and other staff members of the Institute came forward with great enthusiasm to show their contribution towards making cleaner and greener campus.

As part of the initiative, participants took responsibility for cleaning their respective classrooms, research laboratories, departmental offices, and other designated areas including the surrounding premises of the Institute of Human Genetics building.

The Objective of this cleanliness drive was not only to improve the cleanliness and aesthetics of the campus but also to instill a sense of collective responsibility and students and staff. It aimed to create awareness that keeping our surroundings and Mother Nature clean is our sole responsibility as responsible citizens of this country, thereby supporting the Nation’s Swachh Bharat Mission.

Independence Day Celebration:

To mark the celebration of 79th Independence Day on 15th August, 2025 with patriotric fervor, Institute of Human Genetics organized a flag hoisting ceremony. The National flag was hoisted by the Coordinator, Institute of Human Genetics Prof. B.K. Bajaj, accompanied by faculty members, students, research scholars and staff. Following the flag hoisting, all participants came together to sing the National anthem, Jana Gana Mana,fostering a deep sense of national pride and unity in diversity.

  • Awareness on Common and Rare Genetic Disorders Organized Jointly By Department of Zoology/Institute of Human Genetics, University of Jammu and Department of Pediatrics, SMGS, Hospital, GMC, Jammu in collaboration with J&K Science Technology & Innovative Council, Dept. of Science and Technology, Govt. of J&K under “Mission Program on Pediatrics Rare Genetic Disorders” DBT, New Delhi, Govt. of India at Auditorium, SMGS, Hospital, Jammu on 10-12-2024 at 01:00pm. Sh. Saurabh Bhagat, IAS Commissioner/ Secretary to Govt., Department of Science and Technology, J&K, India was the Chief Guest of the event.                                                                                       
  • Workshop cum Lecture on Genetic Diagnosis of Common and Rare Genetic Disorders Jointly Organized By Department of Zoology/Institute of Human Genetics, University of Jammu and Department of Pediatrics, SMGS, Hospital, GMC, Jammu, Under “Mission Program on Pediatrics Rare Genetic Disorders” by DBT, Govt. of India at Auditorium, SMGS, Hospital, Jammu on 20-08-2024 at 09:30am. Dr. Usha Dutta Senior Cytogeneticist CDFD, Hyderabad, India was the invited speaker.                                                                                          
  • National Vascular Day (Marathon): Jointly Organized By Department of Zoology/Institute of Human Genetics, University of Jammu & Jammu Vascular Society on 04-08-2024 at 09:30am.                                                                                                                                  
  • Organized CME on “Genetic Diagnosis of Postnatal & Rare Genetic Diseases” on 20th April, 2024, in collaboration with Department of Paediatrics, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Department of Zoology, Jammu University, Jammu and Kashmir and MedGenome Labs, Bangalore. The program was held at SMGS Hospital Jammu. 
  • Organized Awareness Program on “Rare Genetic Disorders” on Rare Disease Day and National Science Day on 28 February 2024 under Mission Program on Pediatrics Rare Genetics Disorders In collaboration with Science Club. Lecture by Dr. Sudheenra Rao Scientific Advisor, Organization of Rare Disease, India was the main highlight of the event.
  • Organized lecture on “Rare Genetics Disorder” 16-05-2023, at Institution of Human Genetics and Department of Zoology, Jammu University, Jammu and Kashmir. Prof. Dr. Anupam Kour, Department of Human Genetics Guru Nanak Dave University, Punjab delivered a lecture on Rare Genetic Disorders.
  • Organized CME on “Prenatal Diagnosis and Counselling in Common Genetic Disorders” on 16th December, 2022, in collaboration with Department of Paediatrics, Gynaecology and Obstetrics and Department of Zoology, Jammu University, Jammu and Kashmir. Prof. Dr. Manoj Kumar Dhar, Former Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu delivered a lecture on Rare Genetic Disorders.
  • J & K Science Technology and Innovation Council in collaboration with Institute of Human Genetic, University of Jammu organized one day Interaction session with Shri Saurabh Bhagat, IAS  Commissioner Secretary on 30th of November, 2022.
  • One day seminar on Recent Trends in Human Genetics organised by IHG on 4th of Feb., 2020 under RUSA 2.0. The invited speakers were Prof. RNK Bamezai, former Director National Centre of Applied Human Genetics, JNU and Prof. BK Thelma, Dept. of Genetics, South Campus, Delhi.
  • One day Awareness camp on Leukaemia was organized at GDC, Samba on 10th Dec., 2019 and Dr. Megha Sharma from Super Speciality Hospital, Jammu was the invited medical officer.                                                                                                                                                       
  • The staff members of the department, both Teaching and Non teaching showed active participation in the events organized by the University and other departments like conferences and workshops. The Department has hosted a number of Technical sessions of many conferences organized by the University.  In January, 2018, practical sessions were organized in the department during the One Week National workshop on Practical Skill Enhancement for College teachers.                                                                                                                                                                     
  • Invited Lecture on “Stem Cell Culturing” by Prof Suresh Bihari was organized in January 2018.                                                                            
  • Guest lecture on “The Human Race” was delivered by Prof. SMS Chahal, Dept of Biodiversity, Patiala University, Punjab.                                  
  • Interaction Lecture was delivered by Dr. Arun Arora (Gynecologist & Infertility Expert) who in his impressive talk discussed the various career opportunities for the students of Human Genetics was also organized by the department in October, 2017.                                                               
  • Seminar on “an introduction to the basics of Human Cytogenetic and Human Genetic Disorders” was organized in Sept, 2017.                     
  • Invited Lecture on “Behavioral Genetics- Predicting, Detecting and Treating the hereditary genetic disease” was organized in April 2017.          
  • National seminar on “Biodiversity and conservation” was organized in collaboration with Department of Zoology in March, 2017.
