Activities

The Centre has been organizing large number of field and extension activities. It regularly organizes lectures, seminars, workshops on a wide range of subjects which has important bearing on the core area of Center’s activities. The following activities and programmes have been offered by the Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu:-

Activities Undertaken by the Centre w.e.f August, 2021 to March 2023:

           Workshops:

  1. A two days workshop on the theme: ‘G20 and Women: Unlocking the Potential’, was organized on 9th and 10th March, 2023 by Centre for Women’s Studies, in collaboration with the Office of Programme Coordinator NSS, University of Jammu. In the inaugural session Prof. Naresh Padha, Dean Academic Affairs was the Chief Guest, and Prof. Jasbir Singh, Head Department of Philosophy was the Guest of Honour. The resource persons for the two days programs were Prof. Anju Bhasin, Dean Faculty of Sciences, University of Jammu and former Vice -Chancellor, Cluster University, Dr.Ritu Ahal, a renowned Dentist and Cyclist, Dr. Deepali Mahajan, NSS Programme Officer, GGM Science College, Dr. Sandhya Dhar, Disability Right Activist and Dr. Ellora Puri, Faculty, Department of Political Science.
  1. One day awareness lecture was organized by Centre for Women’s Studies in collaboration with JUICCASH, University of Jammu on 20th February,2023 on the theme” Prevention of Sexual Harassment in Educational Institutions. Prof. Vibhuti Patel Former Professor, Advanced Centre for Women’s Studies, School of Development Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai & Former Head, Department of Economics, SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai was the resource person. Ms. Avny Lavasa, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu was the Chief Guest.
  1. On the occasion of National Girl Child Day, 24th January, 2023, the Centre for Women’s Studies, in collaboration with the Office of Programme Coordinator NSS, University of Jammu organized a ‘Nukkad Natak’. The Nukkad Natak was performed by the NSS Students volunteers from various departments of University.
  1. The Centre for Women’s Studies, in collaboration with Department of Computer Science and IT and Electronics (jointly), University of Jammu organized 17th workshop under the ongoing series for the students and scholars of the Department of Geography, University of Jammu on 27h December 2022. The Centre for Women’s Studies, in collaboration with Department of Economics, University of Jammu organized 13th workshop under the ongoing series for the students and scholars of the Department of Economics on Thursday, 1st December 2022. The Centre for Women’s Studies, in collaboration with Mathematics Department, University of Jammu organized 12th workshop under the ongoing series for the students and scholars of the Mathematics Department on Thursday, 24th November 2022. The Centre for Women’s Studies, in collaboration with Sanskrit and Dogri Department, University of Jammu organized 11th workshop under ongoing series for the students and scholars of the Sanskrit and Dogri Department on Monday, 21st November 2022. The Centre for Women’s Studies, in collaboration with the Department of Philosophy and Home Science, University of Jammu organized 10th workshop under ongoing series for students of the departments on 7th September, 2022 respectively.   1. The Centre for Women’s Studies, in collaboration with the Department of Sociology and Psychology(jointly) and Department of History, University of Jammu organized 8th and 9th workshop under ongoing series for students of these departments on 1st  and 2nd September, 2022 respectively. Dr. Bindu Sangra, Faculty, the Law School, University of Jammu was the resource person on 1st September and Dr. Suraj Mohani Jamwal, Faculty from Cluster University (PSPS GCW Gandhi Nagar Jammu) was the resource person on 2nd September 2022.
  2. The Centre for Women’s Studies, in collaboration with the Department of Library and Information Sciences and Department of Commerce, University of Jammu organized 6th and 7th workshop under ongoing series for students of these departments on 30th   and 31st August, 2022 respectively. Dr. Hema Gandotra, Faculty, Department of Sociology, University of Jammu was the resource person on 30th August and Dr. Shallu Sehgal, Faculty; Department of Economics was the resource person on 31st August 2022.
  3. The Centre for Women’s Studies, in collaboration with Institute of Human Genetics, University of Jammu organized 5th workshop under ongoing series for the students and scholars of the Human Genetics on Friday, 26th, August 2022. Dr. Savita Nayyar, Faculty, Department of Law, University of Jammu was the resource person.
  4. The Centre for Women’s Studies, in collaboration with Department of Botany, University of Jammu organized 4th workshop under ongoing series for the students of the Botany on Wednesday, 24th, August 2022. Prof.Vishav Raksha, Director Centre for Women’s Studies and Dr. Sonia Aneja, Faculty, Department of Law, University of Jammu were the resource persons.
  5. The Centre for Women’s Studies, in collaboration with The Law School, University of Jammu organized 3rd workshop under ongoing series for the students of the Law School on Monday, 22nd, August 2022.  Dr.Sarika Manhas, Faculty, Department of Home Science, University of Jammu was the resource person.
  1. The Centre for Women’s Studies, in collaboration with department of Political Science, University of Jammu organized 2nd workshop under ongoing series for the PG students of the department on Thursday, 18th, August 2022.  Dr.Garima Gupta, Faculty, Department of English, University of Jammu was the resource person.
  1. Centre for Women’s Studies organized 1st Gender Sensitization Workshop for the students of Statistics department on Tuesday, 16th August 2022.  Dr. Hema Gandotra, Sr. Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology, University of Jammu was the resource person.  This workshop was planned under the guidance and vision of Prof. Vishav Raksha, Director, Centre for Women’s Studies.
  1. Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu celebrated “International Women’s Day” on 8th March 2022. An Awareness program on the theme “Agar Mahilaien Jaagruk Nahi Hui To Pakshpaat Badhta Jayega” for the Community Women of Self Help Groups of Village, Bajalta, Jammu.
  1. Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu celebrated National Girl Child Day.  On this day an online Symposium Competition was organized on 24th January, 2022 on the topic: “India at Hundred: Women in India in 2047” for the students of local Colleges and Department of University of Jammu.
  1. Centre for Women’s studies, University of Jammu organized online Panel Discussion in Commemoration of “International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women 2021” on the theme ‘Orange the World: End Violence against Women Now’ on 7th December, 2021
  2. Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu organizes Special Online Lectures. The lectures were delivered by Prof. Gurpreet Bal, Former Dean and Head, Department of Sociology, Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar on the topic “Sexual Harassment at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition & Redressal) Act 2013” on 1st and 2nd December 2021.
  3. With the conduct of eighth Gender Sensitization Workshop the Centre culminated the workshop Series on 12th Oct 2021. Dr. Swati Dyahadroy, Faculty, Krantijyoti Savtribai Phule Women’s Studies Centre, Savtribai Phule Pune University was the resource person.
  4. Seventh Gender Sensitization Workshop was organized for the students of English and Geography department on 8th October, 2021. Dr. Anagha Tambe, Director, Krantijyoti Women’s Studies Centre, Savitribai Phule, Pune University was the resource person.
  1. Sixth Gender Sensitization Workshop was organized for the students of Directorate of Sports and Physical Education on 5th October, 2021. Prof. Shweta Prasad, Professor, Department of Sociology, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi was the resource person.
  1. Fifth Gender Sensitization Workshop was organized for the students of Zoology, Institute of Human Genetics and Bio-technology on 30th September 2021. The resource person for the workshop was Dr.Anurekha Chari Wagh, Associate Professor, Department of Sociology, University of Hyderabad.
  1. Fourth Gender Sensitization Workshop was organized for the Scholars of the various departments of University of Jammu on 28th September, 2021. The resource persons for the workshop were Dr. Gita Chadha, Former Chairperson, Women Development Cell & Faculty, Dept of Sociology, University of Mumbai and Prof. Deepsheekha Kotwal, Former Head, Department of English, University of Jammu & Former Dean and Head School of Languages, Central University of Jammu.
  1. Third gender sensitization workshop was organized for the PG students of Department of Psychology and Home Science, University of Jammu on 27th September 2021.  Dr. Sadhana Natu, eminent Academician, Researcher, Activist, Feminist Psychotherapist, Head Department of Psychology, Modern College, Pune was the resource person.
  1. Second Gender Sensitization workshop was organized for the PG students of Department of Sanskrit, Urdu and ICcR &HRM, University of Jammu on 24th September 2021.  The Resource person for the workshop was Dr. Neerja Ahlawat, former Dy Director, Women’s Studies Centre, M.D. University, Rohtak.
  1. Under the Gender Sensitization Workshop Series the first workshop was organized on 20th September 2021 for the students of department of Education.  The Resource person for the workshop was Prof. Vibhuti Patel Former Professor, Advanced Centre for Women’s Studies, School of Development Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai & Former Head, Department of Economics, SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai. 
  2. Centre for Women’s Studies, organized a Webinar under Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav on 14th August, 2021 on the theme “Role of Women in Indian Freedom Movement”. Prof. Vishav Raksha, Professor of Sociology and Director, Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu, was the keynote speaker.

  1. Certificate Courses:

The Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu conducted two Certificate Courses of three months duration each in:  1. Gender Issues and II. Women and Law w.e.f. October, 2022 to January, 2023.

  1. CBCS Open Course:

The Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu conducted Open Course under Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) namely “Gender Issues in India” (401) for the students of 4th semester of PG departments of University of Jammu for the session 2022-23.

  1. Certificate Courses:

The Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu conducted two Certificate Courses of three months duration each in:  1. Gender Issues and II. Women and Law w.e.f. October, 2021 to January, 2022.

Activities Undertaken by the Centre w.e.f December 2020 to March 2021:

  • The Centre for Women Studies, University of Jammu organized an on spot online “Essay Writing Competition” on 17th February, 2021 for the students and scholars of University of Jammu to generate awareness regarding gender concerns. The topics for the essay writing were ‘Moving beyond Stereotypical Gender Binaries’ & ‘Women in Multitasking Roles: Problems and Prospects’ for the scholars and for the PG students the topics included ‘Women Rights in India: Problems & Prospects’ and ‘Challenges of being a Woman’. The “Prize Distribution Function” for the same was organized on 19th March, 2021 for the participants and winners of the event. Prof. Parkash Anathal the Dean, Students Welfare, was the Chief Guest on this occasion.
  • The Centre for Women Studies, University of Jammu  on 8th March, 2021 organized an Awareness lecture on the theme “Women Empowerment: A Tool to Overcome Gender Inequality for the Community Women of Village Trilokpur, Gol Gujral, Jammu on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2021. The resource persons on this occasion were Prof Vishav Raksha Director Centre for Women’s Studies and Dr. Hema Gandotra, Senior Asstt. Prof. Department of Sociology, University of Jammu
  • The Centre for Women’s Studies conducted two special online lectures for the students of two Certificate Courses, namely Gender Issues and Women & Law on the topic “Sexual Harassment at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition & Redressal) Act, 2013” on 28th and 29th January 2021. The lectures were delivered by Prof. Gurpreet Bal, former Dean and Head of the Department of Sociology, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar and the lectures were spread over two sessions covering both the conceptual and the implementation supported with an illustration of different cases.
  • To commemorate National Girl Child (24th January) the Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu in collaboration with Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu organized online “Poster Making Competition” on 24th January, 2021 for the students and scholars of different colleges and University respectively.
  • The Centre for Women’s Studies conducted an online Workshop for formulation of Curriculum of Open Course (CBCS) to be offered to the PG students of third and fourth semester for the Session 2020-21 on 30th December at 11:00 am. The outside Resource Persons for the said workshop were Prof. Pampa Mukherji, Deptt. of Political Sc. PU Chandigarh and Prof. Arvinder Ansari, Deptt of Sociology, JMI, New Delhi.

 

Webinar cum Workshop Series ( in the month of November, 2020)

  • The first webinar was on the theme ‘Gender in School Education and Gender concerns in NEP 2020 which was organized in collaboration with Directorate of School Education for the school teachers and was delivered by Prof. Vibhuti Patel, Former Professor, Advanced Centre for Women’s Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai.
  • The second webinar cum workshop was organized on 11th November 2020 on ‘Gender Sensitization’ in collaboration with Women Development Cell of Government Degree College, R S Pura. The Resource person was Dr. Swati Dyahadroy, Faculty, KSP Women’s Studies Centre, SP Pune University.
  • The third webinar was organized on 26th November 2020 on “Gender Sensitization” in collaboration with Government College for Women, Udhampur which was delivered by Dr Nirmala Jadhav, Director, Tarabai Shinde Women’s Studies Centre, Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad.
  • The Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu organised the fourth Webinar on 24th December 2020 on “Gender Sensitization” in collaboration with Government Degree College, Samba. Dr. Hema Gandotra, Sr. Asstt. Professor, Department of Sociology, University of Jammu was the resource person.

Web - Lecture Series (in the month of August, 2020)

  • The special web lecture series was inaugurated by Prof Naresh Padha, the Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu on 6th August, 2020. The first web lecture of the series was delivered by Prof. Vibhuti Patel Former Professor, Advanced Centre for Women’s Studies, School of Development Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences(TISS), Mumbai & Former Head, Department of Economics, SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai on 6th August, 2020. She spoke on “Constitution of India and Empowerment of Women and Girls: Challenges Ahead in COVID 19 times”.
  • The second lecture of the web lecture series was delivered by Prof. Nilika Mehrotra Professor & Former, Chairperson, CSSS, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi on 18th August, 2020. The title of the lecture was “Gender and Disability: New Challenges in COVID-19 Scenario” and it was presided over by Prof Jasbir Singh, Dean faculty of Social Sciences, JU.
  • The third lecture of the web lecture series was delivered by Dr. Neerja Ahlawat,  Former, Dy. Director, Women’s Studies Centre & Faculty, Department of Sociology, Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak on 20th August, 2020 on the topic “Male Marriage Squeeze and Violence Against Cross Region Brides”.
  • The fourth lecture of the web lecture series was delivered by Prof Pampa Mukherjee, Professor, Department of Political Science, Panjab University, Chandigarh on 27th August, 2020 on the topic  “Common Land in Punjab: Interplay of Caste, Gender and Power” and it was presided over by Prof Rekha Chaudhary, Former Dean Research Studies, University of Jammu. 

To culminate the special web lecture series the 5th and the final lecture was delivered by Ms Nitu, DIG, CRPF, Jammu Range on the topic ‘Claiming Spaces and Marking Horizons: Women in Challenging Professions’ on 29th August 2020. Prof. Manoj K. Dhar, the Hon’ble Vice- Chancellor, University of Jammu was the Chief Guest, who applauded the efforts of the Centre for organising the web lecture series in the prevailing pandemic situation

To celebrate the International Women’s Day, a lecture under the Thematic Lecture Series on “Women and Ideology of Terrorism” was delivered by Sh. Rahul Jalali an eminent Journalist, on 8th March, 2019.

Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu in collaboration with Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) Jammu Chapter organized 15 days workshop on “Skill Enhancement and New Product Development ( Calico Printing) w.e.f 3rd September,2018 to 17th September,2018 in the Seminar Hall of the Centre for Women’s Studies.

Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu in collaboration with Gandhi Peace Foundation Jammu Chapter and Gandhi Global Family J&K organized an Interactive Session on the theme “Bridges of Dialogue” on 29th October, 2018 with 25 Women Peace Volunteers from different walks of life, states, religion-caste and Class.

Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu in collaboration with department of History organized Two Days National Seminar on “Resituating the life and Contribution of Maharaja Hari Singh on 22nd -23rd October, 2018

A) Three months Certificate Courses:

The Centre for Women’s Studies conducts two, three months Certificate Courses namely a) Gender Issues since 2006 and b) Women and Law since 2012 every year. 

B) Extension Activities (Field Action) :

The Centre organized extension activities (Workshops) on regular basis in different areas for different target groups like for Community women, Anganwari Workers and Supervisors, Self Help Groups(SHG’s), school, colleges on various women related themes:- 

a) Nutrition and Health Concerns among Adolescent Girls on 25th January 2016 at Bishnah, Jammu.

b) Women Empowerment: Opportunities and Challenges on 18th March, 2016 at University of Jammu.

c) Converting the Research scripts to print on 18th January, 2017 in the university.

d) Save the Girl Child on 24th January in the University and another program at RKS Girls High Secondary School Bishnah, Jammu.

e) To celebrate International Women’s Day a Signature campaign on I Stand Against Sexual Harassment, I Stand for Gender Equality on 8th March, 2017.

f) Gender Sensitization among Youth on 12th August, 2017 at University (DDE).

g) Gender Sensitization among Community Women on 4th September, 2017 at SOS, Gole Gujral Jammu.

e) The Rights of Women on 8th March, 2018 at SOS Home Gole Gujral, Jammu. 

E) Training Programme:-

a) Training Program on Yoga: A Step towards Wellness from 15th to 21st June 2015 at University of Jammu.

b) Two Yoga Training programme one at University of Jammu from 14th June to 21st June, 2016 and second at Anganwari Centre, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu from 22nd June to 29th June 2016. 

F) Seminar: - Two days National Seminar in collaboration with ICSSR on Women’s Studies: Theories and Practice in Special Reference to Jammu Region on 20th -21st March, 2017 at University of Jammu. 

G) Project:-  Multidisciplinary project (04) on the theme “Towards an Understanding of Women of Jammu Region: A multi-disciplinary perspective” was initiated by Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu in 2017

  1. A lecture on “Status of Women in India and Women Studies Centre” was deliverd by Dr. Anjali Deshpande. Apart from being an academician of repute, she is currently Member of UGC Standing Committee on Women’s Studies and Member of Central Advisory Board of Education (Ministry of HRD) on 24th April, 2017 at Seminar Hall of Department of Political Science, University of Jammu.
     
  2. One day Awareness Programme on “Gender Sensitization among Youth” was organized by the Centre in collaboration with NSS Campus Unit at Directorate of Distance Education on 12th August 2017
     
  3. One day workshop on “Gender Sensitization among the Community Women” on 4th September 2017 at SOS, Gole Gujral, Jammu.
     
  4. A second Lecture under the thematic lecture series was delivered by Dr. Lata Singh who is currently the Chairperson of the Centre for Women’s Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi on the topic “Foregrounding Women Performers: Gender and Caste Politics” on 8th September, 2017 at Seminar Hall, Department of Political Science, University of Jammu.
     
  5. To celebrate National Girl Child Day (24th) an Interactive Session was organized by Centre for Women’s Studies on the theme “Facing Day to Day Challenges” on 23rd January, 2018 at Louis Brallie Memorial School for Sightless Girls at Roop Nagar, Jammu.
     
  6. In continuation of the programme celebrating National Girl Child Day (24th), a Poetry Recitation and Interactive Session was organized by Centre for Women’s Studies on 24th January, 2018 in University of Jammu.
     
  7. To celebrate International Women’s Day(8th March), Centre for Women’s Studies organized an awareness programme on “The Rights of Women” on 8th March, 2018 at SOS Home Gole Gujral, Jammu.
     
  8. One day programme on the theme “Gender Concerns Reflected through Poetry” was organized by Centre on 21st July, 2018 at Seminar Hall of Department of Political Science, University of Jammu.
     
  9. One day Interactive Session was organized by Centre for Women’s Studies on “Women and Health Care” on 9th August, 2018 at Community Hall, Trilokprur, Block Marh, Jammu.
