UNIVERSITY OF JAMMU ORGANISES EXTENSION LECTURE ON "RANGANATHAN: THE LIVING LEGACY"

The Department of Library and Information Science, University of Jammu, organised an extension lecture on "Ranganathan: The Living Legacy". The lecture was delivered by Prof. K.P. Singh, Head, Department of Library and Information Science (DLIS), University of Delhi, who served as the distinguished resource person for the programme.

 

The programme commenced with a formal welcome address by Prof. Sangita Gupta, Head of Department, followed by an introduction of the guest speaker by Dr. P.K. Singh, Associate Professor, DLIS.

In his comprehensive lecture, Prof. Singh eloquently traced the intellectual journey and seminal contributions of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan, highlighting his transition from mathematics to librarianship and his pioneering role in shaping modern library science. He elaborated on Ranganathan's foundational contributions, including the Five Laws of Library Science and the development of Colon Classification, emphasizing their enduring relevance in contemporary digital and knowledge-driven environments.

 

The lecture was followed by an engaging interactive session, during which participants actively deliberated on the application of Ranganathan's principles in present-day digital library systems. 

 

The session witnessed active participation from faculty members, research scholars, library professionals, and students.

 

The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Ashwin Kumar Kushwaha, who expressed sincere gratitude to the speaker for the enlightening session. The event culminated with a group photograph featuring the guest speaker and members of the department, marking the successful conclusion of the programme.
