Udhampur Campus, University of Jammu, celebrated Lohri with vibrant energy and deep cultural significance, beautifully blending tradition with the Indian Knowledge System.

The campus came alive as students and faculty gathered around the Lohri bonfire, marking the sun’s transition towards the northern hemisphere and expressing gratitude to nature for its abundance. The rhythmic beats of the dhol, spirited Bhangra and Gidda performances, soulful folk songs like Sunder Mundariye, and poetic expressions in Dogri and Punjabi created an atmosphere rich in heritage and warmth.
Students shared thoughtful insights on the scientific and cultural wisdom behind Lohri, highlighting its connection with solar cycles, agriculture, and community harmony. The celebration served as a meaningful reminder of how Indian traditions are rooted in knowledge, sustainability, and collective well-being.
Rector of Udhampur Campus, Prof. Yash Pal Sharma, extended heartfelt greetings and emphasized the importance of integrating Indian Knowledge Systems into education for holistic learning. He highlighted Lohri as a celebration of the Pancha Mahabhutas, especially Agni and Prithvi, reinforcing environmental awareness and social unity.
