Literary Club, University of Jammu Organizes Extempore Competition “Speak Your Mind”

Jammu, December 12, 2025 – The Literary Club of the University of Jammu, under the aegis of UTSAAH, organized an engaging and intellectually stimulating event titled “Speak Your Mind: Extempore Competition” at Padma Sachdev Sur Sanwad Rangsthal (Open-Air Theatre, Amphitheatre), University of Jammu.

The event aimed to promote spontaneous thinking, articulate expression, and confident public speaking among the students. Guided by the idea “Voices of Today, Ideas for Tomorrow,” the competition sought to inspire creativity, critical reflection, and meaningful engagement with contemporary issues relevant to the youth.

The event was graced by the esteemed judges Prof. Posh Charak, Retired Professor Dept of English, University of Jammu and Prof. Parmeshwari Sharma, Retired Professor Dept of Hindi, University of Jammu whose presence added depth and academic value to the proceedings. Both judges, known for their vast experience and contribution to literary and academic spheres, encouraged participants to think boldly, express freely, and communicate with clarity.

Prof. Meena Sharma, Convenor, UTSAAH, formally welcomed the judges, participants and the gathering highlighting the importance of such events where young minds are given platform to speak, express and build confidence. Aligning her thoughts with NEP 2020 , she stressed that communication skills is the most important skill in the contemporary world and events like these are meant to nurture and build the communication skills of the youth.

Under the guidance of Prof. Sadaf Shah, Coordinator of the Literary Club, the competition brought together students from various departments, Law, Mathematics, Design Your Degree, Five Year Integrated Program, Botany, Zoology, History, Dogri, Hindi, etc. who showcased their ability to speak impromptu on a range of thought-provoking subjects. Each participant demonstrated remarkable presence of mind, linguistic competence, and perspective-based analysis, making the event both insightful and inspiring.

The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation, with students addressing diverse topics that reflected the concerns and aspirations of today’s generation. Their speeches highlighted not only their oratory skills but also their awareness of social, cultural, and global issues. The first, second and third prizes were secured by Sabreena Ayoub from The Law School, Kashish Parihar from Design Your Degree Program and Daleep Singh from Dogri Department, respectively.

The event concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks by Prof. Sadaf Shah, who expressed gratitude to the judges, organizing committee, volunteers, and participants for contributing to the success of the program and upholding the spirit of literary and intellectual engagement at the University.
