JU Organises Punjabi Literary Symposium and Book Release in Collaboration with Punjabi Sahitak Sabha

 Jammu, September 17: The Department of Punjabi, University of Jammu, in collaboration with Punjabi Sahitak Sabha, R.S. Pura (Regd.), organised and hosted a  symposium celebrating the literary contributions of renowned Punjabi poet Harjit Singh Uppal. The event marked the official book release of Uppal’s latest compilation of Ghazals and poetic expressions, titled "Shabad Sargam."

The event was  graced by distinguished personalities from the literary and academic spheres. Prof. Sushma Devi, Dean, Faculty of Arts, University of Jammu, was the Chief Guest. The function was  presided over by Dr. Arvinder Singh Amn, Additional Secretary (Retd.), JKAACL. Esteemed literary figure and celebrated Punjabi Ghazalkar Sh. Pal Gurdaspuri was  the Guest of Honour.

The symposium aimed to recognize Harjit Singh Uppal's invaluable contributions to Punjabi literature and provide an insightful discussion into his poetic works that resonate deeply with themes of culture, identity, and expression. Two research papers were presented about his newly released book by Dr. Harjinder Singh and Dr. Harsimran Singh.

 Punjabi authors  Dr. Monojit, Dr. Baljeet Singh Raina and  Shamsher Singh Chohalvi also expressed their views about Uppal’s literary work and contributions.

Prof. Sucheta Pathania, Head,  Department of Punjabi and  Convener of the event extended a warm and heartfelt welcome to all the esteemed guests, dignitaries. In her address, she highlighted the significance of the said symposium, emphasizing its relevance in promoting academic dialogue and cultural exchange. She expressed her gratitude and reiterated the department’s commitment to fostering scholarly engagement and community participation. Dr. Harjinder Singh served as Coordinator while Dr. Pritam Singh as Organising Secretary. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Harjinder Singh.
