Patriotic March and “Swatantrata Diwas Samaroh” at Girls Hostels, University of Jammu

Jammu, 13th August 2025 – The Girls’ Hostel Premises at the University of Jammu came alive with patriotic fervour today as boarders and staff celebrated Swatantrata Diwas Samaroh commemorate India’s Independence Day. The event reflected deep respect for the sacrifices of freedom fighters and a shared commitment to nation-building.

The celebration began with the pride march with tricolour flags and slogans soaring the sky with enthusiasm and filled with patriotic ambience. Rally marched by all the boarders united with colour of tiranga, the tiranga march was flagged off and joined by esteemed Prof. Shashi Manhas, Provost Girls Hostels with all Wardens, resident Wardens, office assistants and staff from all the Girls Hostels. Rashtra Geet, sung in unison that set the tone for the events filled with pride and unity.

During the event Provost Girls Hostel addressed the gathering. Prof. Shasi Manhas spoke about the meaning of true independence and the role of young women in shaping a progressive India. “Independence is not just a historical milestone; it is a responsibility that each one of us carries forward through our actions, values, and service to the nation”. The event was marked with Ekta Sapath that echoed unity and patriotism taken by Dr Chinmoyee Maharana, Dr Meenakshi, Dr Skarma, Dr Radhika, Dr Sushma, Dr Bhagwati, wardens from Sarojini Naidu Girls Hostel and New Girls Hostel (SNGH and NGH), Chandrabhaga Girls Hostel (CBGH), Priyadarshini Girls Hostel (PDGH) and r/wardens from NGH, SNGH, PDGH and office assistants Sehnaz, Seema, Rupinder, Dimple, and Jyotsna from Provost Office, CBGH, SNGH, PDGH, and NGH along with all boarders and staff.

The Swatantrata Diwas Samaroh featured patriotic songs, poetry recitations, and cultural performances by hostel residents, showcasing India’s rich heritage and the resilience of its people. Students also presented short speeches on freedom fighters, highlighting their contributions and inspiring the audience to live by their ideals.

The celebration concluded with a pledge to uphold the nation’s unity, sovereignty, and integrity, followed by high tea among all participants.
