Nation celebrated Teacher’s Day on 5th September 2024 remembering the Birth Anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, former president of India. Science Club with Department of Zoology hosted a radio talk show on 91.2 FM Dhwani JU recorded on 4th Sep. and dedicates the event to all the teacher and the most powerful teacher of all time, is the TIME. Yes, like we say time is the best teacher, our body also follows a rhythm called biological clock. An elaborate interactive talk on “Life on Time”, was delivered by renowned national and international chronobiologist, Prof. Vinod Kumar, INSA Scientist, Department of Physiology, King Goerges Medical College, Lucknow and former Professor, Department of Zoology, University of Delhi. He is the President of the Indian Society for Chronobiology. During the talk show he discussed about how every life form on this planet has an internal clock and its always on time, and when it goes awry the system starts to fall apart. This internal clock is called biological rhythm. Everything in life is rhythmic and in human, superchiasmatic nucleus is the central pacemaker of the circadian timing system and regulates most circadian rhythms in the body. Further he also explained how pineal gland, very well known as third eye which is sensitive to day and night. He discussed time-keeping of a single cell to organism level. Further, he delved deep in the molecular biology of time inside every cell and how the genes, proteins are orchestrated to sync. The Head, Department of Zoology, Prof. Seema Langer encouraged the initiatives to make aware about this important topic of Biological Rhythms to masses. Prof. Pankaj Kumar, Department of Zoology were present and supported the event during the recording session. Dr Chinmoyee Maharana, Coordinator of the Science Club, JU, moderated the talk show and introduced the audience to the importance of time and rhythm in our daily life. This interactive show through community radio will inform the audience about how every organism and even every cell in our body keep the time. It’s a fine orchestrated mechanism of the living system. It is made up of thousands of genes that encode proteins that turn on and off in a particular order. How screen time disrupt the sleep-wake cycle was also answered.
The Chairperson, Utsaah, Prof. Satnam Kour appreciated such informative talk show and Convener, 91.2 FM Dhwani, Prof. Monika Chadha encouraged the coordinator of Science Club for organizing such informative talk show. The recording of the program was accomplished by RJ Tushar Bharadwaj at the studio of 91.2 FM Dhwani JU.
