The Clubs of Utsaah, Nature & Wildlife Club and Science Club, University of Jammu marked the World Environment Day by joining hands with the Department of Wildlife Protection J&K Govt. An inspiring fervor was observed amidst the serene natural Manda trail in Ramanagar Wildlife Sanctuary where students and faculty from University of Jammu, Wild life department fraternity and morning walker club at “Manda Trail” came together to celebrate this global event dedicated to environment protection and sustainable development. Held under the theme for 2024 “Land restoration, desertification and drought resilience followed by slogan ‘Our Land, Our Future, “We are Generation Restoration”’ the festivity aimed to raise awareness about emerging environmental issues and to promote a sense of responsibility towards nature conservation among the students, staff and locals from civil society.
The event started early in the morning with trekking on Manda Trail, followed by Awareness Program, Pledge and Celebration. While moving on the Trek Prof Parmil shared with participants about the rich avian Diversity of this sanctuary. On reaching the top of the hill all the participants assembled to share their opinion about their experience .It was followed by the awareness talks by officials of Wildlife Protection Division J&K, Morning Walker Association President and students of the University of Jammu. The speakers emphasized the importance of preserving the environment for future generations, they specifically pointed out the reasons of desertification, and measures for land restoration. Dr Chinmoyee informed the participants the symbiotic relations of all live forms in nature from the tiny microbes, fungi, plants, animals and other life forms. She emphasized that time has come to join the hands to safeguard the nature and mother Earth . The program came to an end with nature enthusiasts and lovers pledging to “Plant, Revive and Restore”.
