P.G. DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE ORGANISED TRAINING PROGRAMME ON THE THEME “FUNDAMENTALS OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE”

Department of Commerce, University of Jammu in collaboration with District Employment and Counselling Centre organized comprehensive training programme on "Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence" (a digital skill initiative by Microsoft- DigiSaksham) designed specifically for the P.G. students from 20th to 28th May, 2024. This initiative marks a significant step towards integrating cutting-edge technology with traditional commerce education, equipping students with the necessary skills to thrive in an increasingly digital economy.

Mr. Manish Mishra, corporate trainer was the resource person for the training program. Interactive sessions and hands-on training programmes were conducted where the students were explored to the growth of AI from early theoretical concepts to modern advancements and applications. The curriculum covered broad spectrum of AI fundamentals including machine learning, AI models, AI project cycle, task environment, P.E.A.S (Performance Environment, Actuators, Sensors), S.M.A.R.T, Hill climbing Algorithm and Minimax Algorithm. Participants were also introduced to practical applications of AI in finance, marketing and supply chain management, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world business scenarios.

AI training equipped students with advanced data analysis skills. Students learned to apply AI algorithms for analysing large datasets, identify patterns and make data-driven decisions. This is particularly useful in fields like market analysis, financial forecasting and risk management. The training sessions enabled students to automate repetitive and time-consuming tasks, such as data entry and report generation. This has not only increased efficiency but also allowed them to focus on more strategic and creative aspects. Further, training helped students to innovate and develop new business models. For example, they learn to create AI-driven startups or enhance existing business operations with AI technologies, leading to increased competitiveness and market differentiation. AI training programme will significantly boosts students' employability, making them attractive candidates for roles in data science, business analytics, and AI consultancy. Hands-on training included in the programme provided practical experience with AI tools and technologies to the students. Collaborations with industry experts and real-world case studies helped to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. The programme prepared students to navigate and lead in an increasingly digital and data-driven business environment. By fostering a strong foundation in AI, the department ensured that its students are not only proficient in traditional commerce skills but are also capable of leveraging advanced technologies to drive innovation and success in their careers. The case studies, AI techniques for solving real life situation and Quiz sessions were also conducted to gauge understanding and reinforcement of key concepts discussed during the session.

The programme witnessed active participation of M.Com. students, who showcased remarkable enthusiasm and engagement throughout the sessions. Feedback from the participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many students expressing their appreciation for the practical insights and hands-on experience.

 Dr. Jyoti Sharma, Associate Professor, Department of Commerce coordinated the event. Prof. Gurjeet Kaur, Head of the Department of Commerce, congratulated the students and stated that such kind of training is a pivotal step in ongoing efforts to modernise the curriculum and ensure that the students are well-prepared for future career opportunities by understanding the basics of AI and its applications in commerce, so as to gain a competitive edge in the job market.
