University of Jammu Announces Celebration of International Biodiversity Day with a Special Broadcast on 91.2 FM Dhwani JU organized by Science Club

The Science Club, Utsaah is proud to announce a special broadcast in celebration of International Biodiversity Day on May 22, 2024, in collaboration with Department of Zoology, University of Jammu. This event will be hosted on the community radio, 91.2 FM Dhwani JU and will feature a discussion with Chairperson, Utsaah, The Clubs, University of Jammu, followed by an expert talk with renowned entomologist and environment specialist, Professor Jagbir Singh Kirti. The broadcast will also include an interactive session with the youth, discussing various aspects of biodiversity and strategies to raise awareness locally and globally.

In the opening session held on 21 May, 2024, Prof. Satnam Kour, Chairperson, Utsaah shared her view regarding a dire need of the hour for every individual to realize and understand that mother nature is nurturing us and we are thanklessly destroying the Nature. Such behavior needs to be stopped, so that further damage can be curtailed. We must now focus on nurturing back the mother nature. During her discussion she congratulated the coordinator of the Science Club for using the community radio for spreading the message as it shall prove to be a powerful tool to reach the masses. She also appreciated the taking up of such initiatives in order to grow awareness among local communities about biodiversity.

Dr. Chinmoyee Maharana, Coordinator, The Science Club and Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, University of Jammu urged everyone to, “Be Part of the Plan”, which is the theme of the International Day for Biodiversity, 2024. This theme is essentially a call to act, for all stakeholders, so as to halt and reverse the loss of biodiversity. Thus, supporting the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, also referred to as the Biodiversity Plan.

The program was coordinated by Dr Chinmoyee Maharana, and she acknowledged Prof. Monika Chadha, the Convener, Dhwani JU and Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee, University of Jammu for her constant support and appreciated the efforts of RJ Tushar Bharadwaj during the recording and hosting the special broadcast on International Biodiversity Day.
