Physical well-being is equally important for maintaining intellectual health, said PPCF and HoFF during Induction induction programme for the fresh M.Sc. batch of Botany, JU

The Department of Botany, University of Jammu organized Induction Programme for the fresh batch of its M.Sc. programme wherein Sh. Roshan Jaggi (IFS), Principle Chief Conservator of Forests and HoFF, Jammu and Kashmir, graced the occasion as Chief guest. The event started with the plantation of two important tree species, Pterocarpus marsupium (Red Sandal Wood) and Mimusopselengi (Moulsari), in the internationally recognised Botanical Garden of the University of Jammu. Prof. Namrata Sharma introduced Mr. Jaggi as an illustrious alumnus of the department and spoke on his contributions in the field. Earlier, Prof. VeenuKaul, Head of the Department of Botany, University of Jammu, Jammu presented a detailed picture of the department to the students including the fresh batch through a PowerPoint presentation. While interacting with the students, Mr. Jaggi emphasised that this event marked the beginning of a new academic session. He urged everyone to remember the challenges faced in establishing the institution.

He also encouraged the staff and faculty to contribute to building an institution of excellence. He motivated the students to work diligently, emphasising their future role in impacting ecology and the environment. According to him, physical well-being is equally important for maintaining intellectual health, mental peace and ethical values in one’s life. He concluded by affirming the forest department’s full support for field studies and bio-resource explorations. The proceedings of the event were conducted by Dr. Skarma Nonzom, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Romica Verma. Among others present on the occasion were Prof. Yash Pal Sharma, Prof. Susheel Verma, Dr. Sikander, Dr. Geeta, Dr. Harish, Mr. Abhishek, Dr. Sajan and Mr. Sunil Singh (DFO, Urban).
