3381Under the newly launched Expert Lecture Series, University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), Kathua Campus (JU) organised an Academic Excellence Webinar (3rd in the series) on the theme "Emergence of Cyber Laws in the Era of ICT" by Dr. Amit Guleria (HOD) from Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Law University Sonepat, Haryana.

Dr. Amit Guleria discussed the various emerging trends and challenges associated with cyber laws in the era of ICT. During his talk, he opined that in today's rapidly advanced digital landscape, the significance of understanding and implementing cyber laws cannot be overstated. He highlighted various aspects of cyber laws including their origins, global legal frameworks, key legislation, and the latest developments in the field. Further, he explained the comprehensive understanding of the legal facets surrounding ICT, along with a detailed discussion on cybercrimes, data protection, privacy rights, intellectual property, digital governance, and cybersecurity. Dr. Guleria also emphasised the critical importance of cyber laws to safeguard individuals, organisations, and the government from cyber threats and ensure responsible digital practises. He further stressed the importance of cyber laws in the present era, when the world is interconnected with IOT devices. He added that the emergence of cyber laws is not only crucial but also inevitable. At last, he touched upon the measures to be taken by individuals so as not to become victims of cybercrime.

3655Dr. Meenakshi Kilam, Rector, Kathua Campus (JU) admired the guest speaker and expressed gratitude for discussing the crucial topic with the students of the Campus. She added that cyberspace is not free from dangers and the commission of crimes. Further, she stressed that there is a need for ethical guidelines and regulations to ensure responsible and transparent use of these technologies while minimising potential harms. She said that with the increased use of ICT, there is a need for legal frameworks that protect and ensure a safe and secure online environment for all. She encouraged everyone, especially the students, to actively participate in shaping the future of cyber laws, underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts in creating a safe and secure digital environment. She also emphasised that these types of events must be organised more often to inform the students regarding extremely important topics.

Dr. Sourabh Shastri, I/C Coordinator, UIET, Kathua Campus (JU) introduced the eminent speaker and thanked him for sharing insightful knowledge with the students of the Campus. He further said that the aim of organising the webinar on such a burning topic is to make the new generation aware of the latest laws, procedures and security measures that can be taken to prevent cybercrimes in the era of ICT.
