A one day pre-conference workshop on Transplant Immunology as a part of 47th Annual National Conference of Indian Society of Blood Transfusion and Immunohaematology (ISBTI), TRANSCON-2022 B was organized on 10th Nov. 2022 by Department of Zoology, University of Jammu, jointly with the Department of Blood Transfusion and Immunohematology GMC, Jammu. The theme of the Conference was “Trends, Advances and Future Frontiers in Transfusion Medicine”. The primary goal of the TRANSCON-2022 B conference is to bring the Transfusion Medicine specialists from across the country to a common platform. The Conference is designed to be a perfect scientific feast to share and reflect entire spectrum of topics with emphasis on the current trends, recent advances, newer and changing approaches in the field of Transfusion Medicine with colossal, exuberant presence and deliberations by eminent faculty and experts from all over the country. The Conference also offers unique scope for young scientists and Post Graduate students to share their research activities in the Transfusion Medicine from across the country to present and recognize their achievements in the form of oral and poster presentations. PG students will also have great learning opportunities through specially designed pre-conference workshops to be held on 10th November, 2022 and during Scientific Sessions. The pre-conference workshop began with inaugural function honoring the Chief Guest, Prof. Seema Langer, HoD Deptt. of Zoology and Dean, Life Sciences, University of Jammu by Dr T.R. Raina, Organizing Chairman, TRANSCON 2022 B, Former Prof. & Head Dept. of Transfusion Medicine Govt. Medical College, Jammu. In her inaugural speech Prof. Seema Langer, extended her support for the pre conference workshop and welcome all the delegates to take this opportunity to utilize the central instrumental facility of the Department of Zoology during the CME Transplant Immunology workshop. She specifically acknowledged DST-PURSE for its crucial role in establishing central instrumental facility developed in the Zoology department. The Chairman of TRANSCON 2022 B, Prof. T. K. Raina thanked Prof. Seema Langer and Department of Zoology for their generous support and welcomed the delegates who have joined from various part of the India to attend the pre-conference workshop. He welcomed and introduced the invited Speakers, Dr. Mohit Chowdhary and Dr Manoj Mishra both from Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals • Department of Transfusion Medicine, Molecular Biology & Transplant Immunology. Invited speaker Dr. Mohit Chowdhary, Senior Consultant & Head Transfusion Medicine, Transplant Immunology & Molecular Biology Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, New Delhi delivered a lecture on “Basics of HLA Antigens Various techniques in HLA Typing & Antibody Testing”. He discussed Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) or Major Histo-compatibility Complex (MHC), its history, HLA Tyyping and antibody testing, and its importance during transplantation. Invited speaker Dr. Manoj Mishra, Molecular Biologist Transfusion Medicine, Transplant Immunology & Molecular Biology Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, New Delhi delivered a lecture on “CDC Cross-match” which was followed by practical part of the workshop. A Team from Indraprastha Apollo Hospital consists of Dr. Mohit Chowdhry, Dr. Manoj Mishra, and Mr. Avinash Negi conducted Practical Demonstrations on Antibody Technique and CDC Cross-match followed by discussion and interaction session with participants. The event proceedings were coordinated by Dr Salve, Senior Resident, Department of Blood Transfusion and Immunohematology, GMC, Jammu. The event was a success as per the feedback by delegates present during the event, it was first of its kind in Jammu and is very useful for medical students recieving hands-on practical training on HLA typing and CDC cross-matching from expert which will be useful for doctors in the field for various transplantation.
