As a part of extension activities for the welfare of Farmers/Rural Communities, department of Zoology, organized a farmers meet on the theme “Lab to Land” on 3rd Nov. 2022. In this programme more than 20 farmers under the banner Border belt Kisan Committee (BBKC) participated. The aim of this programme was to directly interact and dissipate Lab knowledge with the farmers and share the scientific research developed in the department especially in Agro/aqua culture sector. In the department, a welcome address was accorded   by Prof. Seema Langer HOD Zoology, followed by a presentation of departmental research activities.  Besides this live specimens of local fish, prawn, crab, earthworm (Vermicompost) and different fish products were also displayed for the information of farmers. An overwhelming response was witnessed from the stakeholders and a very positive enthusiastic interaction session among faculty, research scholars and the farmers followed the departmental presentation. Later, farmers along with staff visited Rakh Badoi, to have first-hand knowledge about fish farming at the fish farm of Sh. Karan Dev, a flourishing fish producer of Jammu. Besides fish culture practices, live demonstration on the recent technology “Bioflock technology” was the main highlighting session held at fish farm. Sh. Ravi Kumar Bhau, president BBKC, expressed his views on the ongoing field work and particularly the problems faced by the villagers/Farmers of the border belt were discussed. He also thanked the department for this effort to take research from lab to land in its true spirit and emphasized the need of such programmes for the farmers of border area.
