Arboriculture and Landscaping Unit, University of Jammu in collaboration with Department of Environmental Sciences and Green Campus Task Force, University of Jammu (GCTF-JU), initiated a week-long plantation drive in the University Campus with an aim to enhance the green cover of the University of Jammu. Plantation of ornamental, fruiting, and avenue trees on the campus is planned in this ongoing plantation drive. Prof. Rahul Gupta, Registrar, University of Jammu and Rector, Bhaderwah Campus was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Faculty members, students and GCTF-JU volunteers planted saplings during the plantation event. Among others who planted saplings during the event included Prof. Piyush Malaviya, Convener, Arboriculture and Landscaping Unit and Head, Department of Environmental Sciences, Prof. Sanjana Kaul, Director, School of Biotechnology, Prof. Samridhi Arora, Head, Department of Home Science, Dr. Deepika Slathia, Member Secretary, GCTF-JU, Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Mr. Ajmer Singh, Landscape Development Officer and his team.
Plantation Drive started in Boy’s Hostel Lawns of University of Jammu

The Arboriculture and Landscaping Unit of the University of Jammu initiated a plantation drive with the target of planting more than a hundred trees in and around Swami Vivekanand Boys Hostel, University of Jammu to enhance the green cover of the University campus. Plantation of various fruit trees including Malta, Orange, Lemon, Tangerine, Guava, Mango etc. along with some ornamental and avenue trees in and around the hostel is planned in this ongoing plantation drive
.
Prof. Umesh Rai, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu inaugurated the drive and congratulated the team of Arboriculture and Landscaping Unit for its efforts to beautify the University campus. During his interaction with the residents of Boy’s Hostel, Prof. Rai motivated the students to take care of cleanliness and green cover of their surroundings with a sense of belongingness. He urged the students to devote at least one day a week to contribute in maintaining the cleanliness and green cover of the surroundings of their hostels. During the occasion, Prof. Piyush Malaviya, Convener, Arboriculture and Landscaping Unit emphasized the importance of trees especially the fruit trees and the various benefits associated with fruit tree plantation. The plantation drive was attended by Prof. Meena Sharma, Dean Planning and Development, Prof. Lalit Sen Sharma, Provost Boy’s Hostels, Wardens of various Boy’s Hostels, Office bearer of non-teaching association of University of Jammu, Landscape Development Officer Mr. Ajmer Singh and resident students of Vivekanand Boy’s Hostel
Plant Adoption Drive organised at JU

Gandhian Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies, University of Jammu organised Plant Adoption Drive in the lawns of University of Jammu. The drive was organised in collaboration with the Arboriculture and Landscaping Unit, Department of Environmental Sciences, Green Campus Task Force and NSS Unit III of the University of Jammu. The purpose of the plantation drive was to give experiential learning and develop a sense of belongingness and sensitivity among students towards nature. The saplings planted and adopted by the students included Amrapali Mango, Amla, Loquat and hybrid Jamun. Around thirty-five student volunteers participated in the drive and thereafter took a pledge of Panchpran. Among those who were present during the adoption drive included Prof Piyush Malaviya convener of Arboriculture and Landscaping Unit and Head Department of Environmental Sciences, Dr. Seema Rohmetra, incharge Director , Gandhian Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies,Dr. Deepika Slathia Member Secretary GCTF-JU

JU VC inaugurates Land Reclamation Drive

In an initiative to reclaim the low-lying wasteland on the University Campus, the Vice-chancellor University of Jammu, Professor Umesh rai inaugurated the land reclamation drive. In the first phase of the drive, land adjacent to the Vice-chancellor lodge was reclaimed and planted with diverse saplings of fruit trees which included mangoes, mosambi, lemon, oranges, guava, custard apple, papaya, falsa, litchi, malta, etc. The Vice-chancellor lauded the efforts of the Convener and members of the Arboriculture and Landscaping Committee,the Landscape Development Officer, and the whole staff of the Arboriculture and Landscaping Unit for the implementation of this significant initiative. He emphasized the need for fruit tree plantations to attract varieties of birds besides numerous other benefits. There are some additional patches of land on the University campus that will be reclaimed and beautified in the coming days.Padma Shri Prof. Dinesh Singh, former Vice-Chancellor, University of Delhi, Hon'ble Chancellor K.R Mangalam University and Vice-Chairman, Jammu and Kashmir Higher Education Council was the chief guest on the occasion. He appreciated the various green initiatives adopted by the University of Jammu.Prof. Bechan Lal, Vice-chancellor, Cluster University of Jammu was also present on the occasion.
