Reasi Campus, JU, celebrates 80th Independence Day with great patriotic fervour and enthusiasm

Reasi, August 15, 2026: Reasi Campus, University of Jammu, celebrated the 80th Independence Day of India and commemorated 150 years of Vande Mataram with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour.

The national flag was hoisted by Prof. Sushil K. Pandey, Director, Reasi Campus, in the presence of faculty and staff members, students, and members of civil society. The ceremony was marked by the singing of the national song Vande Mataram and the National Anthem with honour and pride. Welcoming and greeting everyone on the occasion, Prof. Pandey spoke about the historical and cultural significance of Vande Mataram, written by Shri Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, and its unique role in India's freedom movement. He highlighted how the song inspired national awakening and came to symbolize a legacy of sacrifice, patriotism, and the struggle for freedom. Prof. Pandey also paid tribute to the great Indian freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the country's independence. Recalling the historic significance of August 15, he noted that 79 years ago, the Tricolour was hoisted at the Red Fort for the first time, symbolizing the dawn of a free and sovereign India.

Emphasizing the role of India's youth in shaping the nation's future, Prof. Pandey stated that India's young population carries immense responsibility for the country's continued progress. He highlighted India's remarkable journey from a colonized nation to the world's largest democracy and noted that the achievements made since 1947 are a testament to the resilience, determination, and collective efforts of its people. He further encouraged the students to contribute towards the vision of a developed India by 2047 under the mission of Viksit Bharat@2047, which will coincide with the centenary of India's independence. He urged the students to renew their commitment to the values that define the nation and pledged them to become responsible citizens by protecting the environment, upholding the principles of the Constitution, working tirelessly for the betterment of society, and recognizing the importance of national unity.

The celebrations were followed by a cultural programme presented by the students of Reasi Campus, featuring patriotic songs and speeches. The programme concluded with the distribution of sweets and refreshments among the participants.

Prof. Pandey complimented all staff members and students for their active and enthusiastic participation and expressed his gratitude to Dr. Nisha Sharma, Organizer, and Dr. Pankaj, Co-organizer, for their tireless efforts in making the event successful. Dr. Ravi Kumar, Mr. Babloo Salaria, and Mr. Sandeep Sharma were also present on the occasion.
